I have been reading up on suspension and just purchased an Intrax/Koni set-up for my SHO. Is there anything else I should replace at the same time besides upper mounts on front and rear? Any help is appreciated.

Yes, the bearings, strut mounts, which are known to wear out, try the former Midwest SHO strut mounts, they're reinforced. Sway bar endlinks would be a good idea, especially up front. Try to replace your balljoint grease boots if possible, there's a good chance you may puncture them upon removal.If you have any cracked/damaged halfshaft boots, this would be the time to replace those as well. Finally, i highly recommend TPR/Polyurthene bushings. These are all things that you will have to disassemble to get the struts out. Some may require only disattachment from the strut/spindle, but if it's half way off, why not replace it if it looks shot?

Which bushings in particular, there are quite a few, are we talking just strut to body bushings? The boots I am definitely doing, I recently did my front bearings, so they are ok.

Also, do I need new hardware ie. washers, pinch bolts, or anything else?

When I put new Eibachs/Tokicos all around on my SHO last winter, I also did the following: installed new strut mounts and bearings, new front control arms (ball joints are integral), new TPR tension strut rod bushings/washers all around, new aluminum Windstar endlinks up front and new Napa units in back.

You should go with new hardware, you're gonna need new pinch bolts at a minimum.

I got almost everything I needed from SHONUT:

* Front Strut Bearing (2) #F4DZ-3B455-A
* Front Upper Strut Mount AD-930-A (2) #F1DZ-18183-AA
* Police Rear Upper Strut Mount (2) #F3DZ-18192-B
* Front knuckle/strut pinch bolts (2) #N803-989-S426
* Front Strut Washer set (2 of each) #N804-002-S100-W706-671-S430
* Rear Strut Washers (4) #N804-232-S100
* Rear knuckle/strut pinch bolts (2) #N801-942-S100
* Front Swaybar End Links (2) (Windstar) #4R3Z-5K483-AA
* SHO NUT Reinforced Front MTX Mount #SNP-RFMM
* SHO NUT Reinforced Rear MTX Mount #SNP-RRMM

I picked up the TPR strud rod bushings/washer set from RCM Automotive (#RCM-912)

I highly recommend the SHONUT reinfored motor mounts if you are serious about upgrading the suspension and handling. Also, how are your subframe bushings and mounting hardware? Has your SHO had safety recall 98S36 performed on it? This is another area that shouldn't be ignored.

Finally, you're probably going to need new bumpers and bellows for the new struts.

Thanks for the detailed list. Are the parts the same for my 89 as your 94, I assume so, but want to be sure before I start ordering. Also, where do I get new bumpers and bellows if I need them?

As for the safety recall, As far as I know it has the upgraded 9.75 flywheel and thats the only recall done to the car. What should I be looking for?

yes, same list i think. email josh just to be sure (or look on his site), as i think some parts were gen2 specific, and i needed some gen1 specific parts when i did the suspenion this past year.

the other recall mentioned would be the Subframe Bushing recall. you can get the recall kit and new bushings from josh as well.

Do a search using "98S36" as the keyword and you'll get loads of info on the subframe recall.

Most any parts store will have the bumper/bellow sets.

SHO Nut has a kit of TPR bushing available for the SHO. Those which aren't included would be best if subsituted with polyurthene bushings.

As for the strut mounts, i'm not quite sure which mount the SHO Bros. mount is based off of. If you do purchase mounts from SHO Nut, you'll notice that Josh is very keen on a particular setup after reading his write up on mount & bearing availability.

Keep your eyes peeled for swelling/cracking bushings. Those are a blown fuse in your suspension.

The RCM automotive TPR set is much cheaper, thanks for the headsup. I actually got the upper mounts and bearings cheaper from a local Ford dealer, he gave me 20% off and it wound up being about 100 bux cheaper that way. Overall, I have everything ordered except LCA, I might take a look to see if I need to replace them or not.
