Today I am having my new struts put on. The guy who is putting them on for me just told me that the ones that were on the back were to long. It took him 2 hours to get them off and this is what he does for a living, so it's not like he doesn't know what he is doing. I am so glad I didn't do this myself, even though I had thought about it, but I let myself get talked out of it. I just wanted to share this, because having the wrong part on these cars can cause alot of problems. This does make me wonder about other things not being done right. So now I have new struts and things should be alot better, especially driveability of my car.:woo-hoo:

Too long? What kind of struts were they?

What kind are you having him put in? New springs too?

I just did a suspension overhaul as well. My rear struts were trashed. Now it's like driving a new car.

Yeah, did you buy Monroe Quickstruts? I'll probably go with those as they seem to be a pretty easy "all in one" approach for replacements and some forum members have been pleased with them.

I wouldn't use them... SHOs are supposed to be sporty, not floaty! They make the car sit kinda high too.

Your car didn't have the wrong struts. Like loudsho92 said, there were short and long versions.

A 94 should have had the shorter ones, but maybe they got changed somewhere along the line.

Even though he works on cars for a living, doesn't mean he knows everything. Unless he works on Taurus's :nut:
The rear struts takes less than 2 hours to remove including removing the rear parcel shelf and seats to gain access to the strut mount nuts.
FWIW, he must have not removed the lower control arm to allow enough clearance to remove the rear strut. The long struts were on all '93 SHO's. Unless your '94 is a early production one or the struts were replaced prior to your ownership.

The struts were on the car when I bought it. All I know now is that my car drives better and the vibrations went away. There were times that I was worried about driving even the mile to work and that is just city driving, because of how squirrely the steering seemed. It's like driving a new car, well almost, lol. I got senstrac struts and kept my springs. What he said was that for my car they should have been the short ones, plus the front ones were the right ones. The strut mounds also got replaced. Next step is tires, but that will take me a few months to save for.

Not really. The white '89 had a broken rear spring, along with (probably) original struts all around. I had Quickstruts put on the rear. Sat higher in the rear before one 1K round trip to/from KY, but now the rear sits a touch lower than then front (but not as bad as with the broken spring).

For my use as a business vehicle for 1K-mile commutes, they work fine.
