Hi guys,
I just bought a '92 SHO yesterday at an auction. I think I picked her up at a good price, but she is a little rough. I really dont know much about these cars, so I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on what to look for.

One thing that I did notice is that it seems to have a slight oil leak that is getting on the exhaust and burning. Is it common that this could be the front main??

The car has 119K miles on it, and from the looks of it its probably had minimal maintenence, although I dont know that for sure. I havnt decided yet if I wanna keep it or make some obvious repairs (brakes, tires, etc.), and try to sell it. Any idea what it might be worth if I decide to go that route?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Resale value for these cars is atrocious. With that mileage, if the exterior and interior is in very good shape and the car is running well you can possibly get $3-4000 for it.

Welcome to the gang!
You say you're not too familiar with the SHO so I can tell you that they can be expensive "mistresses".
Repairs and parts can be costly and it's hard to find a mechanic who knows the car well. If you do find one, hold on to him like grim death!
I still wouldn't sell mine though! :D

I give it a week before you say that you absolutely hate the car and it is costing you so much money. With that said, you'll still never sell it. :D SHO's are like crack.

:D Learn how to repair that car by reading a lot of repair manuals about the SHO. Parts are not too bad to purchase, it is the labor that will cost you a bundle from a repair shop.
Above all, you liked the car and purchased it from an auction. Spend some time with your car, and it will make you happy. TRUST ME

Thanks for the info guys...keep it coming!

I really wasnt looking for an SHO or expecting to buy one, it just sorta happened. I'm not so sure its really for me, if parts and repairs are that much. I kinda bought it as a 2nd car (my "baby" is a '01 Dodge Stratus R/T) just to bomb around town with, drive in the winter, etc., and not put a whole lot of $$$ into.

No offense...I know you guys are passionate about your SHOs, and w/ good reason! I bet when mine was new, it was a real screamer, but now it dosent feel like 220 hp under my right foot. I know that it needs tires, brakes, alignment, etc, but I dont know if I want to get into timing belts etc.

That what I said the first time I drove the car then I revved it past 4000 rpm. Hellooo! :D You could say that this motor is a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde.

Are there any manuals or videos that you can recomend? Since it feels a little lazy, I may want to think about adjusting the valves, changing plugs and wires, etc. Judging by the condition of the rest of the car, I'd guess that its never been apart. I'm not in a hurry to get it done, so maybe this can turn into a good project.

Also where is the resivoir for the clutch? The clutch feels a little funny...hoping that its just a little low on fluid. I cant see it, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

Unfortunately Ford wouldn't pony up the dough for a nice hydraulic clutch, so we're stuck with a cable. It may need adjustment, or more likely, replacement. The clutches in these cars are pretty short lived.
