Hi all,
I got tired of driving old tired cars despite being a car nut, and picked up a new '17. I feel like I lucked out as it had every option I wanted and was the right color. The incentives on the '17s pushed me over the edge on the used vs. new discussion. My last new car was a '97 Powerstroke and I still have that one, so I tend to keep my cars forever. We have a 15 Explorer Sport in the family, so I knew what I was getting into, but wow. This thing flies! The brakes are pretty good too, which I was not expecting, as the Explorer could use more stopping power.

It's got the gray Miko seats, sunroof, performance package, and even a block heater (which may come in handy in CO). All things I would have selected had I ordered one.

I had to drive 640 miles round trip to get it and got a speeding ticket in the process (NOT in the SHO), but it was certainly worth it!

-Tom

Welcome to the community, and congrats on the new ride! You will have to be more careful not to speed in the SHO, especially when tuned. That gas pedal is addictive :D

As far as braking power for the XSport, upgrade to better brake pads, maybe try the Police Utility pads or Raybestos Police pads first. Mountainous driving still seems to be challenging to any brake pad it seems, per sholxgt. Still should be an improvement. the 2013+ SHO had improved brakes from the factory, particularly with the Perf Pkg.

Thanks. So far I am keeping the speed under control, but it is not easy.

Good advise on the pads. I will absolutely be upgrading when I change them out now. I had not really considered that before, but it is logical. so I'm not sure why I had not thought of that. My brain went straight to "bigger brakes".

I didn't know that a block heater was even an option. Good to know!
It is a $0 option, kind of like the front license plate bracket is. It does not show up on ford.com, but it does if you look at options on truecar.com. I didn't even realize mine had it until I saw the 120v plug under the hood, but it shows up on the window sticker.
