Hey everybody. I just bought a '91 SHO off my friend for $650. He hit a deer with it 2 years ago and replaced most of the parts himself. It stills needs a hood, passengers side corner light, and a coolant reservoir. I tracked down a hood at a junkyard from an '89 (an '89 hood will fit a '91, correct?), hopefully I can snag the other parts I need from that car as well. It's got 126K miles, so I'll be doing the 60K service as soon as possible. Before I bought it, my friend had the exhaust done in either 2.25" or 2.5" with a y-pipe, resonator, and a Flowmaster muffler and he put in a K&N drop-in. It seemed a bit sluggish on the drive home, so I checked the air filter and the bottom half of the air box was packed with a mouse nest. Cleaned that out and obviously it helped a lot, but it still doesn't feel as fast as an SHO should be.

I love the car so far though, glad to be a part of the SHO community.

Thanks Vnuk. I spent a few hours on here tonight searching this forum and a few other SHO sites. Looks like any hood from '89-'91 will interchange? There are a few sensors unplugged in the engine bay that I'm not sure about. I took some pics with my phone so you guys can see what I'm talking about and hopefully give me some answers.

#1 - Near the coolant reservoir, I assume this is why my "low coolant" light is on, even though the coolant isn't low. I don't see another connector to plug it into?

SHO2

#2 - Grey connector near the firewall, above the reservoir.

SHO3

#3 - These are just tucked behind the shock tower. I know these aren't supposed to be connected to anything. Obviously the red one is the ABS test plug, but what's the black one for?

Welcome in ,

I can be wrong but number 1 looks like the front crash sensor (airbag)connector

number 2 is unused and 3 is a relay (I think its the A/C relay but unsure)

For your low coolant light , Grab another low coolant sensor , they sometimes fail.

Although I played with many harnesses , some of these connectors look alike...

Welcome aboard and best of luck on what (from the sounds and posted pics) appears to be your newest project.

It'll be time consuming, but one that will certainly be rewarding when completed!

A lot of knowledegable people here, across all Gen's.... you may want to try and hit up Kirk from NorthEast SHO for some help as well. :thumb:

Cool, thanks. I'll check that out.

The airbag sensor makes sense. The bag blew when he hit the deer and he removed most of it I believe. Thanks for the help.

Congrats on your purchase. Couple things you could try. Check the compression, check fuel pressure, check the spark. Run the check engine codes, even if the light isnt on sometimes there are codes still stored. Could be so many things with these cars, anywhere from bad o2 sensors to a faulty ECT sensor. 60k is a good idea, so are rod bearings.

Welcome to the SHO family. We have a strong Gen1 side of the family and are always happy to have new members join us. As to your sluggish SHO, the 1st step is, as you stated already, doing a complete 60k maintenance on your 91'. With you finding a nest in the air box, I would also check to see if any other mouse remnants may be deposited in the silencer cone and air grill found in the right front fender. You may need to remove the rt. frt. tire and inner wheel well liner for clear access. You should also check all the way up the piping to the intake to see if any debris has traveled further up the intake. Good luck and check back often. :salute:

Thanks, I browsed most of these SHO sites for about a month before I bought the car. I'm going to check the codes either tomorrow after I get back from the JY or the day after.

The SHO family seems pretty tight knit, particularly the 1st gen owners. There's far less BS on this board than other boards I've been a member of (Honda, Mitsubishi). I vacuumed out the intake box and as far into the fender as I could get. I'll take the wheel off in a few days and see what's left. My friend changed the plugs, wires, valve cover gaskets/plug well seals, about 5k miles before I bought it. Plugs still looks a bit too burnt to me though. I think he may have adjusted the valve lash too, I'll have to ask him to make sure.

Just an update. I took the wheel well liner and cleaned out the silencer, didn't make much of a difference. I noticed the MAF was pretty dusty, understandably so considering all the straw that was packed in the air box. I bought a can of MAF cleaner when I was at work the other day, gave the MAF a healthy does of it, and it runs great now. I put almost 100 miles on it today and there's no more missing, bogging, or bucking. Now I just have to 60K it and I can finally rev it to redline. I haven't gone over 4500 rpm's because I don't know when the timing belt was last changed, could be the original for all I know.

The more I drive it, the more I love it.

She's nothing to look at. My friend hit a deer with it so it's Mocha Frost with a silver hood lol. I have the pic of the engine in my sig, that's all that matters isn't it? lol
