I picked up a 2011 SHO with performance package 2 months ago and absolutely love it!! My Cobra has not left the garage since I've owned the SHO (all the salt and snow on the roads has a little bit to do with that too but the SHO makes me miss it a bit less)

Anyways a couple things I've noticed that may or may not be issues. I've spent the last 90 minutes scrolling through the various threads and haven't found answers to what I'm experiencing so here I am...excuse me if I missed something, after a while all the words start to blend together

1) At WOT the car feels as though it's "floaty"...I have to play with the wheel a bit to keep it in the lane. This happens from a dig as well as at highway speeds

2) After the car has been sitting (turned off) for a couple hours and I make a 90 degree turn from a stop (be it left or right) even if i make the turn at idle speed, I hear/feel a "slipping/grinding" noise. By the time I get out to the road and up to speed it disappears until the next time the car is parked for a while.

3) I wanted to have some fun in the recent snow until I discovered a noise when the tires were spinning in the snow (going straight). It's an awful grinding noise, almost sounds like I'm dragging something plastic across the pavement under the car. Does not occur on dry pavement, only noticed it while spinning in the snow.

Any insight into any of these things is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance and I have to say this is already one of the best forums I've ever been on. Very informative and many knowledgeable members.

Thanks all,
Bryan

I have a 2010 an have never had any of these symptoms. I don't think it is normal, #2 and #3 sound related to AWD xfer case. I've had mine to 134 mph on good flat straight road and it was solid and still pulling when I hit the ECU cut off. Was not floating. (once I had my 81 y/o mom in the car doing 110 and she didn't even notice....)

I have a 2010 also, #3 sounds like the traction control kicking on. Mine makes some noise when the traction control is working, also while this is happening the traction light on the dash is blinking. Next time you hear it look for the blinking light on the dash.

I agree, your description of #3 is very consistent with the sound the traction control makes. Since you have the PP you can disable the traction control by pressing and holding the Traction Control button for a few seconds with the car running, in park, foot on the brake, not moving. Try that, then see if the grinding noise goes away when spinning.

#1 could be a faulty wheel alignment.

#2 could be brakes as well, especially if they are OEM. Check them to see if seem even a little "rusted over" after having been parked for a while.

How many miles on your SHO? Congrats, BTW.

I have tried in all 3 traction control modes and get the same noise...Traction control on, Traction Control off and traction control sport mode (foot on the brake, tap trac ctrl button twice quickly)

I've just noticed yesterday a very slight vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds...going to have the tires re-balanced and alignment checked. Hopefully that's whats causing the "floaty" feeling under WOT.

Going for an oil change next weekend, will check out the brakes. Just about to hit 70k miles. Thanks, I love this car!!

To further explain, it's only during the initial punch, lets say 30-40 yds, once she's hauling azz its fine

If the shop can do roadforce balancing that would be best. Any signs of a bent wheel or abnormal tire wear?

None of the modes you tried disabled the traction/stability control. In the PP cars you can put the car in "sport mode". With the car stationary and brakes applied, pressing and holding the button for more than 5 seconds will completely disable the traction control on PP cars. Sport mode reduces the sensitivity of the traction control, but doesn't completely disable it. Try to completely disable, then see if the noise goes away. If so, that tells you it has something to do with the stability control electronics/sensors.

Ahhhhhh (insert smilie with lightbulb over head). Initially i thought it was related to trac ctrl. I had been misinformed that "sport mode" disabled TCS but suspected that wasn't the case when the noise didn't go away. Can't wait to give that a try in a bit. The plow guy at work sucks so there's plenty snow left in the lot to give a quick test.

#1 is definitely torque steer. You can attribute that to our FWD biased AWD system.

I was thinking/hoping it might be something along those lines...i can recall a friend of mine 99 supercharged maxima doing that. It didn't have me overly concerned just figured I'd ask...thanks for the input

I do notice a little torque steer on mine during the initial hit which quickly disappears. A slight right pull which makes me have to turn the steering wheel for an instant.

Update:
#1 has been chalked up to torque steer - SOLVED
#2 has magically disappeared after replacing the over tired eagle f1's with a set of conti dws - SOLVED
#3 now that I know how to completely disable the TCS - SOLVED

Thanks again for all your input!
