:wave:hey all. I just recently bought a 98 SHO, black with gray interior. It is pretty nice, needs a little TLC. I picked this car up for a daily driver. I, also, own a 97 SVT Mustang Cobra Convertible. I hope to learn some vital info on the SHO from here.

thanks all

my car has 136k miles, what are the chances the motor has survived this long without the cams being welded? I have read 60k is when they have been known to fail

There has been reported cam failures on cars with in excess of 200,000 miles. I had mine welded by NESHO at 179,000. You can remove the front valve cover to check if your cams have been welded. You can do a search to see pics of what to look for. I don't recognize your location. What part of NC are you located?

north of Greensboro. I saw a guy that welds listed in my area. So, the cam failure is sparatic? Some cars fail sooner than others, but eventually all will fail?

V8SHO.com, as of today, has listed 874 cam failed cars. This is probably only the tip of the iceberg, as probably a low percentage of failures are actually reported to the site. Ford produced a little over 20,000 V8 SHOs. As you can see, this is a very high percentage. I would not be considering, if I were you, whether or not my cams might fail, but WHEN they are going to fail. NESHO (Kirk Doucette) is your best bet for welding. He has welded over 1000 cars and is the best in the business. They take their show on the road and visit various states and provide the cam welding, intake cleaning, and 100k service in one package.

oh, I wasn't doubting the cams would fail. It is wierd how some cars can hold out longer than others. I will look into that NESHO guy.

Before taking an appointment , if you're a gearhead , i'd remove a valve cover to look if it's been done BEFORE driving there for nothing.

Also, Doug Lewis at Ford Performance Specialists, located near Atlanta, is also a reputable cam welder. If NESHO is not going to be in the area soon enough, he, also could do it for you. What year is your Cobra? I am ******* for an "03.

my Cobra is a 97, convertible. It is Pacific Green, 1 of 365 PG with saddle leather interior. It is fast. Not near as fast as the 03-04 Cobras, but still fast.
