Hello SHO'ers -

My car is in need of some brakes here before the winter hits. I am looking for something reasonable but not poor quality. What do you all suggest for the 2013 SHO? Thanks!

Do you have the PP equipped SHO? If not, new OEM rotors + PP pads would be one option.

Power Stop brakes do ok for DD duties, don't know if they will be better than the OEM PP pads tho.

Autozone Duralast Gold HiCarbon rotors + a performance pad like EBC YellowStuff, Hawk HPS, or Carbotech Bobcat/1521.

Best to get plain rotors, slotted probably ok. Drilled AND cryo'd rotors would be better than just drilled.

IMHO.

Agree with plain rotors. With drilled you exchange swept area for cooling. I've never found if the trade off is worth it.

I went with the Raybestos Police rotors from Rock Auto and have been very pleased so far. They are a few pounds heavier than the stock rotors which should be a good sign.

For pads, I used Bendix Police pads. If I do it again, I will go with factory Motorcraft PP pads. From the dealer you can order a pad "set" that will include all new hardware, a packet of ****, etc. The Bendix pads are good, but they are very dirty and not easy to modulate. No matter how hard I try, I can't get a smooth end to my stops. They are also a bit on the noisy side. Basically they are performing similar to an aggressive performance pad, but I don't think they are worth it unless you are really ******* brakes or tracking the car.

Edited to add...I also changed to the PP calipers. It's a cheap upgrade as they are only about $35 each after core charge. Not sure if there is any really benefit though.

If you haven't changed your brake fluid yet, it's due as well. I went with ATE because I use it in our other car so it's easiest if they share. Motorcraft is probably the best overall option. Valvoline synthetic and many others are actually a step down in spec from the factory fill.

In summary, it's hard to beat the factory PP stuff. Best bang for the buck is probably to buy Motorcraft PP pads and Motorcraft brake fluid. If you need rotors, I can recommend the Raybestos Police ones as they seem heavier duty than stock.

I do not have a PP. Are they different pads? I am not seeing an option for different pads. Thanks again!

I am not seeing a different pad for regular and PP. Can you share a link? Thanks!

This is one other reason I recommend going with Motorcraft for the pads. They are interchangeable for many suppliers. The Bendix pads I got were listed as PP pads, but they are not the PP shape. They are something between the non-PP pads and PP pads in total area.
