There's three cats, one on each of the downpipes, and then the third one under the car, before the resonator.

With this system, Kirk eliminated the third cat and resonator, and left the two cats on the downpipes in place.

Just like the Gen 3. And there's no O2s after the primary cats, so it's part of the catback.

I don't much see the point of going totally catless. Modern cats flow pretty well.

Correct Ron, like the G3. Removing the third cat won't affect the downstream O2's at all. Can't say how it would affect inspections in other states, but I know in RI it wouldn't be an issue to remove the third cat.

I also agree about the primary cats, and the pipes connecting them don't seem to have any weird kinks or bends in them. Like anything else though, there's only one way to find out: try it! (which is very easy to recommend on Kirk's dime, lol)

:oogle: Ford somehow managed to recreate the sound of an uncorked Yamahammer with a larger, completely different engine...sounds like when my catback broke off my y-pipe on my 95, only with weird lil whirlygigs making a fun lil pinwheel noise.
it really does sound like a 3.0 yamaha running off the y pipe. I miss that sound. you should hear what they sound like with just a magnaflow y:dribble:

I know many V8 enthusiasts will throw in an H-pipe or X-pipe to get different tones. With how long those pipes run parallel, I wonder what it would do to the sound putting an X up high or just before the split to each muffler. Of course, I really want to hear the true dual.

Nice Job, but IMO I think it sounds best without any catback exhaust at all :dribble:. I'm also wondering why you didn't put an X pipe on the new system? The factory second cat does the job of an X pipe, allowing the exhaust pulses to interact and mix with each other. I don't remember how all of that works, but I know it's supposed to add power and response with some sort of corssover pipe on there.

I was kinda hoping an uncorked new SHO would sound like the new GT-R, but those were high hopes :angelnot:.

its not a v8 though........

that's why he said 'as close to'. How silly would he have sounded if he had a v8 and said, I want my V8 to sound close to a V8. It is a personal preference towards a deeper tone. Anyone anywhere that makes a similar statement is simply told to get a V8, but it is possible to get deeper tones out of a v6. The tones will never (or rarely) be as deep as an actual V8 but can be 'close to' them.

OK the Video with sound is up, its at the bottom of the page that I sent out earlier or click here

http://www.nesho.com/Nesho Catback Exhaust.wmv

not bad, do you think an x or h would deepen it up a bit??

what size pipes are you running there,

lets get this done quick, ya got your first sale waiting, we really need to get rid of all dem cats though brother ;)

i really like the rasp, x's give on a stang, but i gotta think with the 6 an h would probably be the better way to go, don't want to sound too ricey,

now, i've already listened to this sound clip a dozen times and am liking it lol

The exhaust sounds good!! I like the v6 sounds of the G35/37's. This sounds close to that just a little deeper and not as high pitched.

I know on V8's firing order has an impact on sound as well, does it impact the 6's the same way?

V6;s always will sound like a heard of bees roaring at you.. Ive tried to get rid of that with this system.. Im going to be testing it at the track to see if any performance gains. I would have to assume SOME as some of the restrictions are gon.

Beef, Im doing one thing at a time, the next thing will be to get rid of the two small pipes that come from the cats to the Cat back (lets call them connector pipes) after that I will straight pipe the cats out of the equasion.

You want it done faster than drive your beefcake ass up here :)

I only have about 5 weeks to play at the track before we get snowed in, then it will all be dyno work.

I'm confused. The title says "First Cat Back System" and yet it appears that the cat has been taken out, making this a Pre Cat Back. I am interested, in one and I think I would buy it immediately, IF it had a cat. Things are pretty strict here in CT. Perhaps it would benefit from a sport cat with a cat back system.
As Bab covered, it is the third cat that is eliminated, the primary cats for each bank remain.

The third cat is not monitored by the emissions monitors so there is nothing to worry about from an emissions inspection standpoint. CT emissions inspections for '96+ cars are essentially the same as MA, and the car would pass MA emissions no problemo and vice-versa.

Very nicely done guys. Looks like a great setup. Can't wait to see and hear it in person.
