My SHO needs struts but I can only go CHEAP (college). Anyone have part #'s (or place to order on web) for Gabriel or Monroe? Does the SHo take special struts?

Also, do I need that bushing thing for the tops? Boots? I'm hoping to order the parts and have my trusty mechanic do it.

Compare the kyb gr2's when you look at prices. They should perform a little better. Check out shox.com and tirerack.com.

first off.... gabriel over monroe..hands down

and i'd say kyb over monroe performance wise....

advance carries both kyb and monroe.... the sho struts are the same as regular taurus struts .... and you should be able to get em at around 40 a pop..... locally

I needed to change the rears on my old 89, but was still in highschool so i needed to go cheap. The old ones were blowing out all of their oil and both rear springs were broken. I got the $40 gabriels, they rode worse then the oiless OE's but they didn't drip. I don't recommend you buy them.

If ya have to go cheap, defininately go with the Monroe Sensatracs for the rear end. I installed a new pair of them, a pair of Moog cargo coils, and new upper strut mounts late last year on the rear of my 89.

I'm happy with the performance of them on the back end, so far.

If you know they're bad, then yes.

My rears were so badly rusted they could not be disassembled. Even if I not wanted to, I would have had to replace the rear springs, struts and upper mount since the nut and the strut shaft were permanently bonded.

Unfrotunately, you would not be able to learn the condition of these until your actual disassembly.

Monroes...LIFETIME warranty and cheap as heck.

I personally feel they are a tad soft for my driving style but I was in the same boat (no $$$) and they are an adequete stock replacement.

Consider Konis in the future.

sunny San Juan Bautista,
If you can swing the extra money between Monroes and KYB GR-2 struts then it would be money well spent. I'm speaking from experience with GR-2s on another car. Like steevil said, consider Konis for the future. At least with the GR-2s now you might be plenty happy till you can swing the Konis.
