I have a powersteering leak somewhere by the firewall area. I only looked at it long enough to see oil flinging off the accessory belt into my face. My question is whats more common? A hose leak or can it actually leak out of the PS pump?

It can leak from both.

There is an o-ring under the inlet to the pump, there is the rubber line itself that goes to the pump, and the high pressure line that connects to the rear of the pump. There is also the return line that runs across the back of the engine bay.

If it's getting on the belt, I'd guess it's the pump. But, that's just a guess. When my pump asploded on the way to VIR last year, there was fluid ALL OVER that corner of the engine bay thanks to the leaky pump.

My guess is the resivour return line is leaking. Pressure line in the back tends to leak downthe bracket and onto the motor mount , not onto the belt. I'm sure it's happened but I've never seen a pump a SHO that leaked through the front shaft. Even after overspinning them and running them dry for a while.
