Well the shifting from my atx tranny with only 15,000miles has been far from perfect with shotty shifts all day. Well tonight the check engine went on and off about 5 times after the car shifted through and i reached 55mph and was in overdrive. It would stay on for about 5 min then go off. Why is the Check Engine light going on? Ive had the car checked about the tranny earlier and they said they didnt revieve any codes. Could it be that the computer is finnally reading the codes? And will codes be stored since the light went on?

SHOooo:
Any time the CE light comes on, it should store a code. If the battery is disconnected at all before the codes are read, it will clear them though.

SHO Times has a how-to pull the codes yourself: http://www.shotimes.com/SHO3eeccodes.html
That is not entirely true. My car does not store codes when the CE light comes on. Last winter for example, the revs started bouncing from 200-1400 RPMs and the CE light came on. The car smelled like gas and there was a knocking. The car was towed to the dealer because it wouldnt start, it got there, they pulled the codes and guess what, nothing. Not too long ago i was driving and the CE light came on and when i would give it gas the whole car would shake bad. This happened for about 15 minutes. I get home, turn the car off and turn it on and the CE light is gone. I go to a buddies house who has a 7 second T-bird and he pulls the codes and NOTHING comes up, NOTHING. The battery was not disconnected between the time the CE light came on and when the codes were pulled either time.

So, just because your CE light comes on does NOT necessarily mean a code is stored

Notice I said should store a code. wink In any case, it's the logical 1st step to identify the problem.
