I've searched and cannot find a definitive answer, my stock mufflers have a nice gaping hole on top of each muffler, needless to say they sound like crap. Can I cut off the originals and mount Summit Turbos and tips using clamps? Or am I better off taking it to a shop and having them welded on? I would rather do it myself but I don't have welding equipment or the experience to do so, will clamps work?

You should be able to do it yourself. The only thing you might have a problem with is if you cut the old ones off and slide the new ones on and clamp then down then you might lose too much pipe so that they won't extend far enough out. It's always worth a try yourself. If you cut the old ones off and find out the news ones don't reach out as far as you'd like then drive it right to the exhaust shop and have themp weld them on. I'd give it a shot though.

Edit: IIRC the rear pipes are 2 1/4" OD piping. If the new mufflers are 2 1/4" ID mufflers they should slide right over the pipe. If the mufflers are also 2 1/4" though you either need them welded on or have the pipe end of them stuck in a pipe expander so they'll fit over the pipes. Hope this helps you.

the rear pipes are 2". The entire SHO exhaust system runs like this: dual 2" front y-pipe, single 2.25" intermediate pipe, dual 2" rear pipes. I'd spend the money and have them welded, exhaust leaks sound like crap.

Thanks for the replies, as soon as I get the Summits and tips it's off to the shop, any guess on what they're going to charge for two mufflers and tips???

Do the summits come with hangers?

I got charged $25 for one muffler and 2 tips, we also had to cut the hangers off the old mufflers and weld them to the new.

But my shop is run by the Army's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program, which gets it's money from the money the PX makes off me....
