Took my SHO to a friend that works at Monroe Muffler/Brake.

Needed parts:

-Cat-back dual exhaust - Walker, $360, installed.
-Struts - Monroe, $360, installed
-IAB - $170, installed
-Starter, $130, installed

I know that these are good prices, but I am a college student...so is the starter hard to do myself to save a little money? I did a search, but came up with little helpful information. For $130, should I just have them do it? If not, where can I get the part?

P.S. There was a young mechanic who looked under the hood of my car. His expression: eek! "What the F***! This S*** is awesome!" thumb Priceless!

Don't have them do the IAB, Thats easy to change on your own. The starter is difficult IMO

A friend and I changed the starter lying in the dirt without a jack in 1.5 hours. Not too difficult. The IAB requires the intake removed...if you can do this, get the IAB for around 60.00 and save 110.00 there.

IAB is easy? I thought the whole intake had to come off. I can do this and save money easily? (I sound like a cheap *** , but I enjoy working on my own car anyway!)

Thanks for the reply.

Yep the starter is easy!

Just be prepared to get really oily!
Since the oil filter is right above the starter guess what happens each oil change.

Yucky!

The starter is pretty simple to do...it's only nuts and bolts. Changing your oil when the starter is off is also a good idea. Otherwise, just cover it with a plastic bag every oil change like I do :D

You should really look into another catback system for your car. If you want to save money purchase the Dynomax kit. If you have the money to spend purchase the Borla kit. Use the search feature to find out more about exhaust kits.

The IAB is relatively easy. All you need is a 5 mm long-arm Allen and some patience.

Monroe Sensa-A-Tracs cost about $60 each retail. If you can get them installed for another $30, do it.

A starter will cost $60 exchange at either AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts. Pay extra and get the one with the lifetime warranty - you will need it.

Honestly, I cant understand how anyone would consider replacement of the IAB valve or the starter difficult.

Both are very easy in comparison to other replacement items on these motors. And both are simply bolted on... nothing else has to come off to remove them.

IIRC, the first time I removed my IAB to clean it, I had it removed, cleaned, and reinstalled in less than 20 minutes.

Starter took a bit longer, but not by much. Maybe 40 minutes, and that included removing it, tearing it apart, cleaning and lubing it, and reinstalling it :)

Yeah why do you have to remove the intake to change the IAB??? I removed mine to clean it real quick, no intake removal necessary....

You don't have to remove the intake to do it just unscrew the two allen head bolts and then replace it... IIRC Napa had it for 46.99 Part # (Wells) tv200. The starter requires 1 nut and 2 bolts to get out then 1 bolt to unhook the cable. It's pretty simple if you know what you're doing and if you don't ask and you shall recieve... :)
IIRC I got my starter at Checkers(Advance) for somewhere around $50, plus a 30 dollar core charge...
