......as it did my wife Margaret. lol ...... She quickly got a butt massage to calm things down again and was quite happy after that....:woo-hoo:

That's hilarious Colin! I did try it on the girlfriend once when I first got the SHO and it earned me a :bonk:

Now I simply target other people unfortunate enough to ask for a ride :laugh_ti:

Actually, I find it amusing to "test" the collision avoidance system when I have other people in the car with me. The red lights, the beeping and the sudden loss of the stereo has been known to "freak-out" a few of my various passengers
In all seriousness I will test this when I get a chance..... And a new passenger

haha! yeah man i hear you! it still freaks me out sometimes - it sure has saved the front end of my SHO on several occasions!

I find that the computerized console is great, but if I need to change any major settings, I'm constantly looking down. This causes me to lose concentration on the road compared to my previous cars. In my previous cars, everything was a *** or switch and was quick to change. It is still a great system and I have just learned to make changes while I am stopped at a red light!

Adam flew out of state and was head'n to Cali for something.....

I did get an email from him recently stating that my set up could possibly be shipping out next week perhaps.....

Anyhow, apparently he retooled a couple of spots on the mold where he wasn't happy with (as far as the 1st few sets having gone out) and is applying a newer and thicker type of gel coat which he says will make for a much nicer finished product overall.

I told him no rush on mine. I thanked him for the update and assured him that I'd rather him take his time and crank out a quality product, rather than rush.

But that's just me I guess.

Spoke with Mobsteel today. They said they shooting for next monday for the grills to be ready to ship.

I say don't bother tinting the lights. You should open the lights and paint all the chrome black. A lot more work and time involved, but imo it would look so much better. Oem lights can be a pain to open, but with a little patience you shouldn't have too much of an issue.

Yep, I just got off the phone with Pam because apparently Adam emailed me sometime this morning to ask me a couple of questions on my grille set up, and Pam said they were aiming for sometime early next week for ship out as well.

Good to know that we're all keeping each other updated and even better knowing that we're all equally receiving similiar information.

I did work last night and just woke up a lil while ago, so when I called, Pam said that the question Adam had for me, he already made an executive decision on and pulled the trigger using his own thoughts.... so I told Pam "Cool, I trust Adam's instincts and look forward to the end product".

So shouldn't be all that long now for mine to arrive. :thumb:

That's exciting Mike! I can't wait to see your grille. Something tells me that it will be even better than the "stock" mobsteel grille..... :hail:

Although I was planning on "de-chroming" the car, I'm still not sure if I want to black out the trim around the windows. I do plan on blacking out the chrome around the tail-lights though. They are starting to peel so it will be easy to black them out after I get rid of the peeling chrome.
As for tinting the lights, I may go with this company that Steve142857 recommended called Lamin-X. They make a tint film that is custom-cut for your car that you can apply yourself. I think that I will go for a "lighter" tint though because I don't want to sacrifice night-visibility for looks. The thing that really sucks about Canadian SHO's is that we do not have the HID lights and the factory bulbs are extremely dim at best. Almost immediately after getting my SHO last year I plugged in a set of Sylvania Silver-Star Ultra bulbs and that seems to have cured the brightness problem. I think that they will hold up to a mild tint as well.
What are everyone else's thoughts on me blacking out the chrome trim around the side windows? I'm thinking this may be "too much" however I do like the black, murdered look as well. I just can't seem to make a decision on this one..... :braincramp:

Sweet, thanks for the heads up on the ACC sensor! Also great to hear about the adaptive cruise. Has the collision detector gone off yet? That's a hard one to test lol!!

Michael,

My collision detector has now gone off 3 times since installing the Mobsteel grille so no problems there! The only problem I have is finding a good suede cleaner for my passenger seat after scaring a few people while testing out this theory! ;)

I'm not a fan of completely removing the shine from the car, although if you could get the black chrome look (like available on some tools I've seen). It keeps a shine but is a black color, I think that would like extremely sharp on the car, especially the black car. It would give all the chrome areas a black shiny look.

It warms my heart to see how much the new Taurus looks like the 91-95 models. Dead sexy.

Another option is to pick up a set of used oem lights and do a retrofit. The hid projectors, ballast, and bulbs from Ford vehicles (including the Taurus) are really easy to come by and also really cheap. I bought a set of bulbs, ballasts, and projectors for $125 shipped. Pull the old ones out of the lights, and put the new ones in. Once the lights are opened it would be an easy swap. Then use a relay harness to hook them up to the oem plugs. While the hids are barely average in the Taurus, they are still a lot better than the halogens.

Wow. $125 is a GREAT price Bill. I may have to look into that.....

I know how you feel about tinted headlights however I went ahead and ordered a set of custom-cut light covers for my heads and tails from this Lamin-X place.

http://www.lamin-x.com/

I chose their lightest tint color called "tint" (go figure) for the headlights and I chose the darker "smoke" color for my tail-lights. I think that this will be a good compromise between looks and visibility.

More to follow (including pics of course!) when I receive them!

Thanks to Steve for the link :salute:

My pleasure Andrew! I arrived home late tonight, I had a golf tournament and when I got home I had a delivery notice informing me of an attempt to deliver a package... I presume it is my light covers, if not it is my CAI Airaid... Either case it's exciting news!
I also received my Hankook summer tires... What a difference! I can't wait to go to the track again! When I was stock, my best was 13.6 at 104mph, now with the tune but with mediocre tires I ran 13.07 at 108mph. Now with the CAI and the brand new tires, I really expect to break into the 12's... I'll keep you posted when that happens, and I'll post pictures of installed lights covers soon!
Cheers!

I thought I was finished with mods, but I'm liking the lamin-x for the heads and tails. Can't wait to see how they look installed. I'm thinking the light or gunsmoke would look best with the red color. What do you guys think?

I received mine this morning and already had them installed!
Looks great. My car is black and I took the tint (6%) in front and gunsmoke (12%) in the back. The only issue is that when he removed the excess film on that was touching the chrome... the chrome peeled off at many places... I guess I will have to remove it all and have black vinyl installed instead. The guy told me he would charge me 60$ for both tail lights to install the black vinyl around, as long as I remove the chrome myself previously. Not too bad. All-in, I paid 54.95$ x 2 free shipping and no taxes for the covers (2 front and 2 back) and 75$ cash for the install... The guy didn't feel comfortable cutting the white back light in the center afraid to damage the lights itself, so I left it fully covered (not like bdp Mike)...
I will have pictures taken soon, when there will be sun and the car will be washed and/or when the chrome will be replaced by the black... I'll keep you posted my friends.

Hey Steve,

Great news that you received them already! I placed my order yesterday so if everything remains the same, maybe I will have mine by next week :woo-hoo:
I really can't wait to see some pictures of yours. I have been doubting myself on the choice of tint for the headlights and have been worrying that it will be too light. Just like you I went with a darker shade (smoke) for the tails because I'm not as concerned with the visibility of those.
I'm thinking that I should take care of my tail-light chrome peeling before I install these though. Does the film overlap onto the chrome trim?

Thanks for the update Steve :salute:

Hey Andrew,

I wrote a post on another thread, but I already had them installed. Looks great!
2 issues : chrome peeled off when the guy removed the overlapped film and also, since my car is black, now the chromed front grille out stand even more... So, I like the look of the tinted lights, but not thrilled with the overall look because now it puts an accent on the grille. I am not sure I would like to have the mobsteel grille. It looks good, but not the direction I want to take for my car... It looks a little bit too mean/ghetto for me... I like it, but my job requires me to see clients for whom I manage their investment portfolios and I don't find appropriate that mobsteel grille for my needs. I will think of something to diminish the chrome effect of the stock grille... Maybe a paint job in black leaving just the two metal bars (not chromed) in silver/grey... Will see for that...
Pictures to come soon, when I will have arranged the chrome removal on tail lights and when we will have a bit of sun to clean the car.
BTW, how much is the mobsteel grille and is it a clip'n go or more complicated to install, just in case I decide to go with it anyway and don't care about my clients perception lol?
Thx
