I bought a new timing belt cover from members on this forum. I thought at first maybe it was from a 3.0 so I reassembled my broken one and sure enough its the same exact one.

I broke my covers to get them off. Getting them back on is now the major issue. The lower cover lines up perfectly. The top cover as well. When I put the middle cover on, the right side will go flush, but the left side keeps bulging out and wont line up properly.

This is the gap between the top portion of the lower case, and the bottom portion of the middle case.

This is where the lower case bolts into the middle case, on the far left of both cases. I cannot get these two to line up properly.

As you can see, the right side of the middle case sits flush, where as the left side of the middle case does not. The lower case is properly alligned and bolted in. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. As always, thanks in advance.

You have to install the middle cover before the lower and upper covers. I don't know why Yamaha did this, but that piece on the middle cover that's catching goes under the one on the lower cover.

And this is why I didnt install the crankshaft pulley yet.

Thanks as usual hawkeye, always saving my ass it seems.

fml I'm about to just leave the mid off until I can get bolts and find out how to fit it >.<

edit: i lied i forgot id have to put the crank bolt and pulley on to get my car running.

This is where I seem to be getting caught up at. This top part will line up against that rubber grommet but the bottom stays like an inch off. What gives >.<

I had this same problem when reinstalling mine a while back. IIRC it just took wiggling and whacking to get it to set down in there right.

You don't really need the timing belt cover. The engine will run just fine without it. Many people run without any timing belt covers. Ok, well a few do, anyway. It won't **** it.

The one bolt hole/portion of the middle timing cover on the far left actually goes behind the metal timing backing plate not in front of it.....

From the look of your picture you have it in front of the metal backing plate.

It is tricky to figure out, but makes sense once you get it in.

Thanks. I thought that too but when I fit it yesterday it didnt work. I havent tried it with the covers separate and the lower one off. That is probably my problem. I was just going to leave them off for now. Thanks again all.
