A few months ago I had groaning power steering. I replaced all the PS fluid with Type F ATF and the groaning went away (and the feel of the steering improved a lot, also). The PS is now hissing/sqeaking when making a turn. Lucas PS Stabilizer says it will fix this. Has anyone used this stuff and with what success? I there anything else I can do to cure the hissing/squaking?

I'm no fan of additives, but on occasion I can see a use for one or two of more credible products. In the case of Lucas Power Steering Stabilizer, when all else had failed (new fluid, bleeding several times, etc.), I dumped a bottle in my old '93 Sable as a last resort, and it not only quieted things down, but it also firmed up the steering system in general, which had gotten a little "wobbly" during hard cornering. I kinda doubt it's a long term solution, but I sold the car several months later and the PS system was still nice and quiet at that time.

It's cheaper than a rack, so go for it. We've used the Lucas P/S stuff as well as the tranny stuff, and it doesn't seem to do any harm, and ocassionally will in fact improve things. We also use their oil additive as assembly ****.

The (Lucas) additive slightly reduced the hissing and slightly firmed up the "feel" of the steering. I guess because I already had reasonably new fluid in the system the Lucas stuff gave only this small improvement. I know it's not a long term solution but if it gets me through the winter I'll be happy.

Used it in a Chevy pick up. Helped with binding problem-was temporary, eventually went for the new box, but it did work for a while.
