I don't know if its the easy way but I took my whole cluster out and pulled inside of the cable right out then cleaned it up any lubed it with a really light oil for small electric motors. You will have to get the upper portion of the cable out of the lower section to get enough slack to beable to have enough room to get the cable off the back of the cluster before you can get it out. May not be the easy way but it will give results.

Liquid graphite or powdered graphite works great. Because of the way the core is spiraled, the core tends to move the lubricant along the sheath. If the core has one broken wire in its' bundle, the broken wire tends to catch on the inside of the sheath and will give you that jumping needle effect.

How to **** your Speedo Cable (From my Father-in-Law who has been running his own repair shop for 30 years.)

1. Go down to your local Cheby dealership parts counter and ask for a bottle of Speedo Cable ****. It is about $5 and will last forever. I don't know if Ford has it, they probably do, but he recomended Chevy even though he is a Dodge man. You do not want to use graphite or WD-40 unless you want to re-do it in a couple months.

2. Disconect the speedo cable from the tranny.

3. Unbolt the dash clading and pull the instrument cluster.

4. Disconect the Speedo cable from the intrument cluster.

5. While pushing and puling on the metal cable in the sheath drip **** in it so it get soaked well and all the way down.

6. Reasemble everything and enjoy a non-bouncing speedo.
