loose clutch cable???

I have an 89 sho that sat for 1 year and the clutch would not dissengauge so i replaced the cable and now its loose and wont adjust. i am not 100% sure how to adjust the book says to hit the pedel a bunch and it should a just but does not sound right to me please help me

To adjust the clutch cable you need to sit in the car and pull up on the clutch pedal with your foot until you hear it click.

If the car sat for a year, depending on your location and how moist it's been, it's highly likely that it's not the clutch cable that is at fault but the arm for the clutch fork. Those tend to rust in place if it's left in a moist area and not moved for a long time. You might consider spraying the fork arm with PB Blaster where it enters into the top of the trans and see if you can get it to loosen up.

Just a guess from the info given.
