you have to clear all stored codes with a scanner. just disconnecting the battery wont do it.

Wrong. Disconnecting the battery and draining all the computer's stored memory DOES clear the codes. I know this because i have done it, and my car had no stored codes after I buttoned everything up from my 60k.

oh ok. when i was replacing my HO2's i had to clear codes. disconnected the battery in my SHO, and the CEL came back on. so i hooked up the scanner and cleared them that way and that did the trick. maybe i didnt have my battery disconnected long enough. shrug

When dissconecting the battery its a good idea to get in and step on the brake a few times after to make sure you got all the stored energy out of the electronic systems of the car and computer.
Then wait about 5 minuts and hook it back up.

I haven't found anything immediate that has aleviated my problem. That said I haven't worked on it much. I am at college and rarely drive my car... basically only to go home. I think I might have a fuel pressure issue. I have not had time to check it, but I do notice that my fuel mileage has been really crappy as of late... even with my 60k done and with new O2 sensors in....

You might have more time to check stuff out. I suggest checking your fuel pressure.

yeah i will, i am changing my fuel filter tonight. Does your oil smell like fuel? The reason I ask is when I changed my oil is reeked of gas and now (2 days later) my fresh oil smells strongly of gas (mabe its just me) And I am getting about 10 miles to the gallon (no joke)

Ive cleaned my MAF, swapped my K&N for a paper filter etc

But Ill keep checkin on it and check fuel pressure

Alright I got a chance to get my fuel pressure readings...

KOEO - jumped to 18-20 then went down (quickly) to zero
KOER @ 3,000 RPM I had a constant 30psi

KOEO the Fuel pressure should jump to 38-42 psi and stay there after the fuel pump stops running.

What are your pressure readings at idle? if you remove the vacuum line to the FPR, what are the readings then?

They should be:
38-42 psi KOER, No Vacuum to FPR
28-32 psi KOER, Idle, Vacuum connected.
When you blip the throttle the readings should jump immediately, not fall or hesitate before rising.

Alright, went out with a buddy of mine to get some good readings...

KOEO - 37psi
Idle - 32psi
@ 3k - 33psi
Removed FPR - 42

So this is interesting.... maybe i should check for vaccuum leaks again? I dunno... I'm going to clear my codes this weekend and see if it comes back...

Well after some time my lean condition is still there. I just put on a set of Alex's silicone intake hoses and that did nothing for the code. I guess I am down to checking the physical connection between the O2 sensor and the engine wiring harness and re-checking fuel pressure at the rail.

I probably will switch the 02s as well to see if one is malfunctioning.

I think I finally fixed it. We'll have to see. The borg warner 02s I put in are crap. I put in a Bosch O2 on the bank that read lean most of the time. I'll see if the problem persists.

Now that you mention it, I had a very short service life from the Borg-Warner O2 sensors that I tried in the SHO some years ago. The Bosch parts have lasted much longer.

Yep, I can safely say that my lean condition was caused by crappy O2 sensors.

Just thought I'd add my situation also. I had a rear bank lean condition and decided to replace the sensors on a hunch it might be them. The CE light was still on after I changed them both out and I assumed it was still the rear bank lean code. My milage was down to about 18 and it was starting to stutter at low idle occasionally.

So I finally broke down and brought it into a Ford dealer, and turns out that one of the O2's wasn't even switching. They wanted $370 to change the sensor!:p So I took it home and had another friend look at it who verified one of the O2's wasn't switching. Than I read this post and decided to swap out the borg warners with a few thousand miles on them for some Bosch ones. first I replaced just the one that wasn't switching and I still got a CE, but it wasn't smelling nearly as lean(I could smell the exhaust when I stopped before). Than I replaced the other O2 and no more CE light. Anyway The bad sensors were Borg Warner so this is just a long way of saying stay away from them:p
