ive just read the sticky about keys . not sure how to apply it to my car .
ok here it is .... 94 atx . ignition is busted. it starts with NO KEY . and starts fine with key also . so im not really worried about that . but here is my worry .
my key that starts my car does not open my doors or my trunk, or the lock on the floor for the gas and trunk. right now the clip that latches the fuel door is busted off . i suspect someone did that intentionally because the key for the car cannot be used for the lock on the floor. my question is what is the cheepest way to get a key to work for everything? ... i could really care less cause i have AAA but if my battery is dead and doors are locked as of right now i couldnt get in to pop the hood to replace battery or jump it.

cant i just have a key made that will work for all locks and ignition? or do all the tumblers need to be changed? is this something i should attempt on my own? who should do it? a locksmith? ford dealer?

any help appreciated.:hail:

The long route is the only route.
I had purchased a 90 that came with no keys.
I replaced the ignition and door locks and ... the trunk, floor release and glovebox.
You'll always have 2 keys.
Salvage yards are the best place.

agreed... or there are a few places that will come out and make a key to your lock, they have this cool thingy that they put in the key hole and make keys from it...

Try the phone book and call around... good luck. I had the same prob with my Camaro.... that was a while ago....

locksmith will cost $$$

go to the wreckers. its very easy to pull the key part of the ignition. you need to get the key from the j/y though. put the key in, turn to the 'on' position...but dont try to start. then have a small allen key, or pick-end screwdriver to push in a hole undernieth right near the key....then pull the key and ignition out carefully, and dont turn the unit in itself, unless you feel like a locksmith...some parts may fall out of the assembly. the key stays in untill the ignition goes back into your car.

p.s. ignition key is the door key (on 93's for sure), and there is a seperate key for the trunk. i have heard you can stick a flat head screwdriver into the lock on the floor for the trunk and gas door, and hammer it...breaking it.

I bought my 91+ from a police auction, no keys, locksmith on the spot, cost $50 for him to do the wiggle and file, worked great. My local one is only $15 if you drive to his shop.
