Stock air box with a k&n panel filter with the air silencer delete is best for non-FI sho's.

your probably pulling hot air not from the way it sounds you installed it, like stated already, ther stock airbox pulls from the fender and is actually not a bad design with a highflow filter adn the silencer removed.:thumb:

IMO, it's in your head..... Not to be negative, but I had that same kind of set up on my car for a while, and it only seemed to run better. Although the stock set up with a k&n is a great set up, you shouldn't be losing torque by going to a ram air type set up.

I lost a lot when i had that set up. The engine is just sucking up hot air. It likes the cool fresh air from the fender.

I have since gone to my own custom in the fender cone filter, but before I had a "ram air" set up in the engine bay and the throttle seemed much crisper than with the stock set up. While the stock set up is great, it's more restrictive than an open cone, but the air will be a little warmer with the cone.......but unless you have done the throttle body coolant bypass, your throttle body is warm anyway I just don't see losing torque from going to a ram air intake setup:shrug:

SHO 101.

1-TB bypass aint doing squat.

2-Hot air has alot less density then cold air (thats why hot air always moves up) Therefor , In the same cubic inch of air , you got more air (more compressed-like) going in the motor (cold air situation) , rather then hot air.

3-Impressions of I THINK , aint valid. No sure if it got more HP? , how bout a drive on the dyno. It speaks for itself.

4-My advice , K&N panel in stock box with deleted silencer.

5-If your looking for cheap HP boost on a SHO , you bought the wrong car , sorry.

if you look at the k&n on somedude101's turbo setup the one on the turbo is the same filter i have it sits right infront of the fender cutout. as for smoking tires if the car cant handle it then its of no use to me it hold up well.i bought this car by chance i wrecked my blazer the sho got hit in the rear friend got insurance check i gave him 500 for the car fixed the light, license plate holder and that was it. i was good to go i'm not looking for cheap peformance because i know i wont get it without electronic tuning. i think stock exhaust and air filters are restrictive i like my vehicles to breath better. i do have by tb deleted but for easy removal not of any horsepower gain and the air silencer is out too. it's a matter of time untill i get a mtx or i may just go turbo not sure.

Yeah the cone filter is not very good unless it is protected from the engine heat. The stock box it pretty good with a K&N and silencer removed.

just build a box out of sheet metal or something and get some rubber insulating tubing lie kto insulate pipes in a house and line the top of it, thats what I have in my car. So I have the best of both worlds.:thumb:

extend the piping so that the filter sits inside the bumper, in front of the DS front tire, its the easiest way to get cold air

the other option is to build sheilds that come up off the frame rail and allow the filter to draw air ONLY from the original opening for the airbox, from the headlight opening in the header panel, and from the hood gap

any other design is nearly pointless, UNLESS the stock airbox is horribly restrictive (this comment is about cars in general though, i know it doesnt apply to the sho)

well i think it has a harder time sucking up all the air maybe it needs to sealed airbox for added pressure.
