Drove through the storm while I was at work, I passed through Springfield between 4:15 and 4:30 on my way out to Palmer to deliver a customers car. Saw what I thought looked like a whirlwind forming over Agawam and proceeded onto the Masspike like a lemming to the cliff. Golf ball to baseball sized hail began screaming down from the skies as if they were down thrown by a pro ball players. Cars to my left and right were putting thier hazards on and pulling off the road, fighting for spots under the highway overpasses, and sliding into the median. I kept on trucking to palmer through the terrential rain and hail that made the "fast" mode on my windshield wipers look foolish, and the '06 Rio that I was in was fending off hail like a Spartan to a thousand Persians. Finally I made it to my destination, and like a switch it all came to an eerily calming halt. I stepped out to asess the damage, and from head to toe the car was covered in dents and a cracked rear window was a sign of just how lucky I was,....and how unfortunate my customers car was. My tail car and ride back (an '05 Taurus) had less damage, but still was dinged up pretty bad.
Now a passenger in the Taurus, we continued to go back from where we once came....To make a longer story somewhat shorter, we were turned around by Police and told to find a different way back to Enfield CT (my place of employment) and for those of you who don't know from Palmer, MA to Enfield, CT should take you no longer than 30 minutes. It took us 4 1\2 Hours to get back to Enfield on back roads because of downed trees, power lines, debris, .....ect. We got turned around a total of 18 times, all while being stalked by the storm. Needless to say It was quite an experience.
