my car threw a yellow oil light tonight(not the red one). i immediatly pulled over. i checked the level and it was in the middle of the add a court grid. i got a ride home and back with some oil. filled it up and the light went away. i just need some reassurance that this was the only problem and not rod bearings.

Still, the low oil sensor doesnt trip until you are WAY low on oil.

Id say the sensor is failing. Simple, cheap fix.

thank you. now im not afraid to drive it.

Edit: Im pretty sure ive got a leak some where or its burning because the level was low. I have noticed little drops of oil that hang off the bottom of the oil pan. should I replace the gasket? and while im in there ill do the bearings also.

Which spot is the yellow one in? I don't recall seeing mine light up when I start the car. I know the red one lights up...

The yellow one doesn't usually light up upon startup.

Yes, the yellow is for level, it usually goes on when you are two quarts low. Your rod bearings arn't goin out...yet. However, if this motor is being run low on oil - I would bump them up on the priority list....and keep a closer eye on the oil level.

I know this thread sounds like i dont take care of my car. the reason it got so low was i added another quart only a couple weeks ago and it was full. now two weeks later its down to two? i dont think anyone could see that coming. i knew it had a small leak but 2 quarts in 2 weeks, thats rediculous

These cars have a tendency of surprising us....you can't do much about the burning - except use high mileage oil. Which would be a good idea, it will help your leaking also. I'd get at those seals when you get a chance.
