So I've had this '96 SHO for about 7k miles now, and it just recently hit 160k on the odometer. The engine had been running just fine up until today. I didn't drive the car any since this past Friday, and when I started it up today I immediately noticed a flashing CEL. I drove the car to see if I noticed anything wrong and it seemed to have a loss of power, with some very slight hesitation/surging/sputtering under load. You could feel the vibration of the engine missing while it was under load... it's was fairly noticeable.

I drove over to AutoZone and had them do a scan and they came up with code P0301 - Cylinder misfire detected, cylinder number 1

I think myself and the gentleman at AutoZone overlooked the "cylinder number 1" part and we started looking at spark plug and coil pack availability for all 8 cylinders. I decided to just a complete set of AutoLite double-platinum plugs, so I'm unsure of the maintenance history on this motor. I noticed that the second cylinder from the right (facing the front of the motor) had a touch of oil in the plug well. Nothing too major, I've seen much worse on V6 SHO engines, and I'm not sure if oil is that little bit of oil is the culprit.

Later remembering that the code specified cylinder number 1 I decided to jump on here and do some looking around. I learned that cylinder 1 is of course on the firewall side of the engine, and I'm going to have to take the intake manifold off in order to get back there. AutoZone doesn't sell any of the needed gaskets so it looks like I won't be tackling this project today.

I'll need the valve cover gaskets, plug well seals and any other gaskets I can get for the top end of the motor. This thing has leaks all the way around, and I can hopefully at least knock out the upper engine leaks while doing this. I just got laid off work last week so I would like to spend as little as possible on the upper gasket set. I've so far only found a company called "K-Man's Parts" to sell an upper set:

Since money is a little tighter right now I would like to spend as little as possible on a full upper gasket set. Does anyone know of anywhere that I might be able to pick up the upper gaskets set (not just simply the intake manifold gaskets and plug well seals... I want the rest of the upper end gaskets while I'm doing this) for less $$?

I guess once I get the gaskets and make my way to the back coils/plugs I can diagnose if which is bad... but I'm almost willing to guess that it's a coil since this is something that suddenly happened, rather something than progressively happened. Thanks in advance!
