Has anyone upgraded to sync 3? I know its expensive but is it possible?

I'm happy with the way sync two is right now. I can't justify paying 2k for it. That's just me though but it does look nice.

sync 3 is completely different hardware, so to upgrade means replacing the screen and computer.

The screen on my 16 is the same size as the earlier SHO's 7". I just installed a screen protector on mine. IMHO sync 3 is superior to what was in my 10 MKS,12 SHO and 13 xsport.. It is way faster

So the real question is , is it plug and play.
After a year or so finding these in the junk
yard will get easier.

I watched a video on Youtube where they were asking an engineer the same question. He said it wasn't backward compatible.

It depends upon your definition of "backward compatible". We had a Ford exec vehicle turned in last month that had Sync3 in it (a car that was factory Sync2) and Ford made us change it back to Sync2 before it went to the auction. It took all new hardware, but my understanding is that it plugged into the harness. That is why I said in the earlier post that it takes a new screen and controller.
