My IRCM recently went out on my SHO, we stuck one from a regular taurus in, and it started up fine... is it safe to drive around on one of these ones? (the one that came out of my car had red txt and had a big 'M' on it, the one I put in has black txt and has a big 'J').

thanks in advance!

half-way there, I think.
The letters are supposed to match. I would be a little hesitant to drive it. There are several relay that control fuel pump, power to the eec, fans and such.

What Terry said. My biggest concern would be the fan not operating properly, as well as not all of the + and - leads to the PCM being right and back-feeding one or more ckts.

A few things that you will have to look out for:

SLO fans, MTX SHO, and ATX SHO fans all operate differently. There may be a fan issues, as Chris mentioned.

Some of the older vehicles had multiple speed fuel pumps, but the newer cars are not wired for that. I'd be weary of a fuel pump running on a low speed forever.
