Greetings!

New to list. I had a 95 SHO until 1998 got a buick regal gs in 99. Mustang gt next, dodge Magnum rt and currently my favorite of all my cars 09 G8 gt. The G8 does everything I need, decent milage, looks, mean beastly v8 with all bolt on mods. Basic bolt on mods like Kooks headers X pipe high flow cats and Magnaflow straight through mufflers. At track car went [email protected] best, a 12.70 and 3 times in a row 13.00 all in one night, only time it was at the track. Many mods later like performance rebuilt trans with extra red Alto clutches, lightweight fly wheel and CircleD 3000 rpm stall, Yella Terra 1.85 roller rockers and UDPs. But not been to track since. It also has a full suspension of FE3 struts and shocks, BMR, Lovell's and white industry poly bearings and parts. Car has been awesome. I also loved my SHO but it was slow, even after some mods. However the newer SHOs I have been watching since I heard the new ones in 2010 were coming out. Until now I really worried about my car as it is unreplacable in my eyes. And nothing I could afford interested me that I could replace it with. Made me worry about it since I really love it. I been waiting on the SHO s reliability while I enjoyed my G8.
Now I have some miles on the car and have a need to travel. I started researching for what I want in a SHO or new car. Only two cars that excite me are the new 2016 camaro ss and I thought the new 2016 or 17 lightweight 9 speed SHO. Now I heard that's a bust and good idea to grab a regular 15 or 16.
I know what I want and what I will spend when ready.
Probably a low milage used 2011~2016.
White or black possibly blue.
Don't need the pp. Would be nice but the 19 ' s and less weight and less thing to go wrong might be quicker or more reliable. Plus I know 19 inch tires well from the G8....
Will add $1500 in mods, installation is taken care of.
I would like to keep 85% reliability, and not totally **** gas milage.
Our track is 1/4 mile, Atco...though I would run it once before n after probably not again in its lifetime.
We race here a bit and it is usually a 0 to 70, or 80 most.
Most driving would be on rural roads, then highway, little city driving.
I would want the car to run 12.20 on its best day but avg mid 12's consistently.
Looking at Livernoise tune & programmer, plugs, 3 bar, lower thermostat, meth injection. Custom by Joe gutted dry fiber Amsoil filter airbox. Underdrive pulley if applicable. Not interested in expensive loud droning aftermarket exhausts. If downpipes end up being the clog perhaps coated downpipes and high flow cats much later, not in my original $1500 in first mods.
Tell me what you think, all relevant comments appreciated. Would those mods be close to achieving my goals.thanks for any responses.

I think your mod list sounds about right. I think to get down that low (12.2) you will definitely need to let the exhaust breath and at least get DP's if not a full turbo back system.

The low 12.2 would be an odd ball perfect run, true aim is mid 12's. Just feeling out the mod list now, was not sure on the down pipes. Put high flow DP and race cat on my SC regal, was worth like 8 hp got like 7 with the Magnaflow catback. 15 hp not worth 1500 to me. On the G8 did X pipe, high flow cats then Magnaflow was worth 15 hp. Only thing I really noticed is when I put Kooks headers on. A Vector tune was worth it too. After 4 aftermarket cold air boxes did about same as my gutted stock box with Amsoil filter, I finally found a Vararam ram air airbox that made a real difference. So what is better bang for the buck downpipes or some exhaust, and what exhaust, cats or catback or what? Thanks for your reply!

Downpipes and turbo backs are not all about peak HP, but also about area under the curve. They will help spool up of the turbos so you not only get more peak power, but also more power sooner. You will need the turbo back for the numbers you are trying to achieve.

Not sure what turbo backs are. Does this list have a dictionary of terms? I do understand area under the curve. Trying figure out the mods, never had a turbo car or all wheel drive. Thanks again for your input

I think he means catbacks. Downpipes will be catted or catless.

Tune + 3 bar + TStat + Downpipes should get you into the mid-12's (12.6-12.7 area). Being OCD about maintenance is a MUST (hoses/clamps/fluids/etc).

What's a 3 bar? (Map Sensor)

An air flow meter that tells the engine computer how much fuel to inject at any given point. "bar" refers to standard atmospheric pressure, and the rating is in "absolute" pressure. So a 2 bar sensor is actually 1 bar of boost, a 3 bar is 2 bars worth of boost, etc. 1 bar = 14.7 psi approximately.

I had a 2012 black SHO. My mods where LME MyCal with 4X tune, 3rd cat delete, Airaid CAI, Dyno Max axle back mufflers. Car ran upper 12's easy and after downpipes, ran best 12.69. That car was a PP car. I also retrofitted '13+ oil cooler too. Think total of all mods including having DP'S and oil cooler installed was right around $2000. Now I have a '13 PP car with all the same mods, but with the V8 tune for the '13+ cars it ran 12.63. Whoops forgot this. I also have the 3 BAR map sensor and still get 25-26 mpg. Really never had any gas mileage drop off cause of the tune. Hope this helps.
