I went to get an estimate on how much it would cost to have my driver's side seat fixed. The threads are comming apart, the foam is crushed and no longer supports, and the leather is cracked all over.

He quoted me:

$180 for just the basic driver seat repairs (re-thread, re-foam)

$225 for complete restoration of the driver's seat (basic repairs + strip and re-dye + replace the cracked parts)

$350 for complete restoration of both driver and passenger seats. (would be nice to look symetric)

What do you think? Is this too high? Which option would you go for?

It sounds reasonable. I was going to buy a 1988 BMW 635csi 5 speed about 6 months ago. The only reason I didn't buy it is because I was quoted at $1800 to restore it's beautiful, but shot, Lotus White interior. That quote was for the driver's seat, passenger seat, leather door panels, and the shifter boot.

But that is vintage BMW leather.

Someone on the forum has a REALLY nice custom interior under performance body or whatever. It is green and tan...there are pics. Aftermarket interiors can be very cool.

Personally, if my interior went south, I'd opt for some nice fasion racing seats like Recaro or Corbeau... you know, leather race seats with 4 or 5 pointers naughty

But... on the other hand, the stock interiors are very nice and the gen I/II SHO's have one of the most comforatble stock interiors I have ever been in. So, maybe it is worth restoring.

Good luck.
