It has been done. Just not all F/I SHOs have them. Lupo, Josh(SHOnut) ,Toolman, and PanamaPat(I think?) all run inter or aftercoolers.

Several SC SHO's have an Air:Water aftercooler such as that one. Josh T, Lupo, and Jason (Kaotic) to name a few.

would an intercooler be a wise investment for a 6-9 psi blower? For example, I very rarely see even 9 psi, I get on it occasionally, 4-7 psi, and thats maybe a few times a day. Would an intercooler be good for MY application?

On a 9 lb. blower (325 hp, 255 ft.lbs. torque at the wheels), what kind of gains could be expected?

If you never went over 6 psi it probably won't do you much good. The water injection might be a better option if you wanted some protection. Basically an intercooler allows you to turn up the boost, thereby giving you more power. As an example, you could run 6 psi before you started running into detonation without an intercooler or you could run 9 psi before any detonation with one.
I would think that it could be made to fit a SHO if it fits in a little Contour.
You could probably make it fit as long as it is big enough for the sho, but I daresay that there is more room in that little contour engine bay than the SHO's.

Very wise investment, not sure on the gains but that's just a bonus considering how much life it will add to your motor. :thumb:

Case in point: turbo SHO, 519 HP, 40,000+ miles on pump gas, daily driven in all types of weather, with never a hint of detonation, and no problems besides the occasional transmission grenade. And I see 12+psi every chance I get :D

Verdict: Intercoolers and FI SHO's love each other.

Unless Timothy is not telling us everything and cranked up the boost, that might be a flywheel horsepower number! ;)

Same HP as you Tony (at the crank!). 430whp with a 17% loss. 519hp. Sounds impressive eh? They do not advertise Z06's or Viper's with whp, si I figured what they hey!

17% on a fwd? Thats a really high estimate. We use 15% or thereabouts for a Z06, and thats rwd.

Wow, I didn't realize it was that much at the crank :thumb: .

Oh, by the way Tim, the new third gear will be ready thursday and it should have the car up and running soon. I'll try to take pictures of it and the modified gearset before I install it. :)

Ahhh, but 519hp sounds SOOO good. Okay okay, 15%. So I ONLY have 506hp. Happy now Mr Corvette

Tony, EXCELLENT. Can't wait for the results. I just put the turbo back together with a low mileage trans. Was going to swap out a cryo'd new from FORD 3rd, but did not figure it was worth the trouble. Keep me updated.

Call me when you're pumping out 437 ft/lbs of torque Mr Tyner... :bonk:

On a serious note, intercooling any car that sees over 8lbs on common occasion is a great idea. Anything on that line can be judged on a case by case basis, but as already mentioned, the security of knowing your motor is safe is enough for me.

What happens @ 437ft lbs? Is there another SHO running that much tq? The highest I ever see from the hi-boost SC'd SHO's in the 350-360 range. Oh, what was your number again? Be expecting a call soon :D
