Since mine is going to my local dealer next week, I'll talk with the service manager and see if he can shed any light on location and how-to change the filter on the SHO. Will report any info I receive.

The filter is only serviced with the pump assy. It has enough filter media to last the life of the vehicle. This is true providing you dont get a bad batch of gas full of debris. In either case tank removal and line flushing would be required with or without a "lifetime filter".
Fusions have had this setup since 06 and I have never had a problem with any of them. Some of the Fusions I see are 150K mile fleets and are ok.
I had the same skepticism about the filters when Ford first started using them. So far it is a proven design.

Pump removal comes from under the back seat however the tank does need to be lowered slightly to access some of the bolts that cover the pump.

Filter is inside gas tank, and not suppose to need maintenance. Which is outline in owners manual.

If you're looking to modify and push more power through these cars, it'd be best to overlook that portion of the owners manual.

It's not hard to see that if that filter ever gets clogged, or has decreased performance, it will effect performance. I've seen cars go lean due to fuel filters. Running lean while pushing the envelope can be very disastrous.

You are trying to "maintain" this car, right? Where do you think some of the particles go that you're trying to clean?

Agreed, sorry was a bit confused by your comment of disregarding the owners manual. But if the filter can be maintenanced I plan doing so regardless of what the manual says. But won't surprise me if ford has the filter bundled to the whole pump assembly.

I am familiar with this product although I've never personally used it. What I am really wondering about is whether for cars with hardened carbon build up (like the BG Fueltest car) will the 3M product even have any measurable benefit? Then, for cars with softer carbon build up - the sticky stuff - like on my car how well will this work? I ordered some more Amsoil PowerFoam last night, and will check the condition of those same two valves again after using it. If it does not help, I "may" choose to try the 3M product to see if there is any difference. My guess is that anyone running water or alcohol injection will not have a carbon build up issue since the mist in the intake should do a good job of breaking up the carbon . . .

With engines that have bad buildup of hardened or even soft sludgy buildup -- I'm wondering if this crap could somehow be caught under the valve seats, or would that clear itself under the cleaning process?

the trick his to remove the

gaz line and put the product directly into the system

ive used the mopar cleaner

you add this and some gaz then you plug this into the gaz rail and close the return and you put 40 psi in the line and you run the car till it dies and man does it pufff but after that your injector are ******* clean as helll and the chamber also his clean

im trying to make myself a kit

Unfortunately this approach will not help with DI engines as the fuel sprays into the cylinder under high pressure without ever touching the backside of the valves.

If the chemical is able to dissolve and reliquify the carbon, I don't think it should be a problem. If big chunks of hard stuff break off, different story, the edge of the valve or valve seat could theoretically get damaged.

That isn't is something I would worry about never seen seats ever get sludge'd up. And if the valve wasn't seating properly it would be quickly apparent. This how valves and seats get burned up, but usually caused by being bent or out of lash in the case of mechanical adjustments.
