Hey all,

My car is idling like crap right now and I thought that I would try replacing the IAB Valve off of my spare intake manifold (from my 3.2L swap), but when I looked at them they were different looking. I replaced the valve anyways thinking that it just might be a new design. My question here is are there any differences in IAB valves? The one that I swapped in (from 3.2L EGR equipped intake) was shorter and had a what looks like a black breather something-or-other on the top, whereas my original one (from the 3.0 non egr intake)was longer and sealed w/o a breather thingy on it.

I tryed the new one and now my computer is giving me check engine lights when the car is slowing down to come to a stop, then it goes off when you are acelerating. It doesn't feel like it is hampering performance and I did not clean it however when I used it.

I then swapped the other one back in because of it and I cleaned it with C&C cleaner and now the car sputters, backfires and dies. So once again I put my other one that gives the CE light back in. Can some one help me settle my IAB woes?

BTW I will be checking codes tomorrow, but I am pretty sure they will be IAB related...

You need to reset the computer whenever you mess with the IAB. Disconnect the battery, turn the car on, press the brake pedal for 30 seconds, turn car off, reconnect battery, start car with all accessories off and let it idle on its own for a minute without messing with it while the computer is learning its new idle settings.

There were two redesigns on the IAB per shotimes.com. One of them was a bust, so Ford redesigned again. I always thought they were all interchangable, I'm sure an expert will chime in here.

As for the check engine light, what a wonderful opportunity to pull the codes! Read up on it in shotimes.com under care and feeding -> engine control. Also Scott just posted a link to a great EEC-IV self test tutorial http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html although it seems to have the order for the goose test different. Not sure if this is wrong or if both methods work. Scott?
