Took the SHO to the track last night, wasn't planning on it, but a friend of mine wanted to run his 92 300zx twin turbo to see what it would do (13.7 1/4), and I ran my first run of the night at 15.5, just off the launch it seemed to fall on its face/lag some around the 60ft mark and then it started pulling good. Launched it around 2500rpm, had wheel spin but was pleased with the sixty foot time and decided to run it again and try launching at a higher rpm, so I staged it up to 4k, dropped the clutch and heard a loud clunk and I wasn't going anywhere. Tech pushed me off the track and I was certain I had just broken the transmission as I didn't see any damage to the axles and it wasn't moving when put in any gear.

Had it towed back home, thanks to a tip from Kevin Spann on the SESHO facebook page he believed it to be my axle and when I got it up in the air and spun the wheel, left axle was turning but not at the trans. That made my day! :woo-hoo: No diff destroyed (not yet anyways) So i ordered a CV axle and will be back at the track in a couple weeks and we'll see if I can improve my times.

Yes, because if felt like it would be worse because of the bog...I know it will do 2.2 or better. Just have to learn how to launch this car.

A 2.2 would have certainly netted you a way better time. Trap speed seems normal for a near stock engine car. I assume it was humid as shit outside?

Wow, you must have been wheel hopping bad. I mean i have stock axles and with some small wheel hop and drag radials launching from 5k I hae never broke a axle. And i make 65 more hp then stock.

I have the new BFG sport comp 2 radial tires and they're pretty sticky. Loose gravel/dirt will stick to the tires. I just think it happened to hook hard and round off the knurled spline inside the joint.

Just before I launched, the car in front of me had something happen at the end of the track, so they made me shut it off and wait until they verified the end of the track was safe. So maybe sitting there and its hot outside and I just burned out and stopped perfectly on the tree it was gonna grip hard and go, but the axle gave out instead? who knows. I'm sure I would of ran 12's on that run. LOL

I broke mine hitting a bit of gravel leaving a parking lot and then got traction again faster than i knew it and the axle snapped on me, when they go they go. It may have just been that ones time, Ive got 2 new ones and have been very happy with them and they have survived several launches and a burnout or two with no issues as of yet. Slap a new one in and forget about it!! :)

This is why I would carry 3 sets of axles when I would go to the drags.:laugh_ti:

in 42K of driving and racing my turbo automatic I never had to change a axle. I have broken 2 in my MTX. is 3 years. One was in a snow covered parking lot, honest to god I was not even playing around I was turning around and when I put it in reverse it broke. no bang, clunk or anything. Once making a left turn in heavy traffic. That was SUPER LOUD. sounded like someone broke a massive tree branch. I was so annoyed by that one.
