I got the garage cleaned out and the SHO backed in so I can start my 60K. I want to remove the hood and I can't for the love of god figure out how to remove the hood struts from the hood. Go ahead and laugh now :) But seriously somebody please tell me how those puppies come off. Then you can laugh some more.

look on the firewall where the struts connect. There is a metal piece with pin and c-clip. Use pliers to pull the c-clip, slide the bolt out, walla, strut no-longer connected. And remember, no Q is stupid, trust me I have asked a few "I should have known" ones. :D

The spring clip on the firewall isn't what has me baffled, it's the top of the hood strut attachment to the actual hood that I can't figure out.

OK. The hood struts make for handy prop rods, so I'm kind of glad I didn't figure out how to remove them from the hood *except* the driver's side strut dragged and caught on a whole bunch of stuff when taking the hood off and it didn't help that I forgot to disconnect the hood light wiring connector DOH! The hood is off, now the new shop lights are illuminating the engine.

I still am going to have to remove those hood struts from the hood because they are shot; and cool as my piece of pvc pipe that I use as a prop rod is, I'm afraid I must install new hood struts.
So my initial question still stands.

For the life of me, I can't remember if it unscrews out or you have to use a flat head screwdriver to push it apart on the hood. Personally I would go out and buy a new set and look at that end, it should give you an idea on how it goes on. Sorry could not be more help.

My Helm manual states "Release lock clip by prying with screwdriver enough to remove lift" from the ball stud on the hood.

On mine there is a metal piece that you must pry off first...then it becomes obvious, I just don't remember for sure.

on my hood, there is the ball and the strut fits right over that. To get the struts off, i used pliers and gripped the strut and turned it. This will pop the strut off.

when taking my old broken ones out i had a difficult time with the metal clip holding it in at the base. i dropped it somewhere. in the end i switched to just a nut and bolt combo. i feel it is easier than the metal clip.

PS if u look at my siggy, it was before i had new hood struts. there is actually some visegrips holding up my hood.
