I changed my clutch last week. I purchased 3 quarts of trand fluids(redline MTL) for my 89 sho. My question is how did the mechanic change my trans. fluids if there is was no drainplug ever installed. I know that the trans. oils can be changed on an ATX, there is a drainplug. But on my 89 MTX I think it is sealed. I saw him do the clutch with my help and had to leave when he installed the fluids (like he said). I know there is a filler plug where you can see the level of fluids, but I am not sure of the drainplug. I know that you can install one, but I did not see one on my car. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

So...you didn't actually SEE him change the fluid? I'm not implying anything by this, but, have you considered the possibility that he may have simply pocketed the fluid? Redline MTL is absolutely great stuff to have for free.

You insert a tube and suck the old fluid out through the level check plug. That is also where you add the new fluid. Now, about your choice of fluid, the Redline MTL is not the best choice for the Gen I MTXs. The Redline D4 ATF is a much better fluid for our trans, but no better (and more expensive) than Type F ATF and a few ounces of Ford Friction Modifier. Did you leave a key word out of you topic?

I found out some info about all of the research I did for trans. fluids. 89 and 90 sho have the brass sychros. You must use redline mtl. 91-95 have the plastic or non-metal synchro's you must use redline d4atf. I met Josh from Shonut performance and that is what he told me. For someone with a sho parts and garage company and a 506 horsepower vortec and spearco intercooled sho, he knows and that is what he told me. Redline MTL for my 89.
