i'm in the process of installing my quaife and shimming the gearset (yes you read right, the gearset) for 0 preload.

i need to remove the races on top of the tranny shafts to get to the shims behind them.
two of the 3 races (main shaft and input shaft) fell right out when i split the transmission halves.
the other one (5th gear) is stuck in the case and WILL NOT budge.
i've broken a screwdriver and bent a wrench trying to pry it out.
this is with the application of heat.
no movement whatsoever.

please help i need to get this running ASAP.

I had no problems removeing the shims by hand. Can you spin the race by hand?

no, that's the issue, it will not budge at all.
it is stuck in the tranny case, the other two simply slid right out.
bizzy gave me some tips via PM, if anyone else has anything to say, by all means.

Mabye put the case half in the freezer for a few hours to "contract" the race. Then when your ready, heat the case around the race. Just another thought.;)

HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP HOLY CRAP

you ever do something and afterwards, sort of step back and think, "damn, that was cool."

so the holiday is finally over and my girl went back to college so i got back to it. after doing some hammering, heating, etc i remembered a trick i read online somewhere and thought "that'll never work."
in a fit of desparation i filled the race cavity with grease, then found a socket that was almost an exact match to the inner diameter of the race (i believe it was a 1" impact) and inserted it flat-side down into the cavity, with an extension coming out the wrong direction. I tapped on the end of the extension a few times and voila, the hydraulic pressure popped the race right out! it was so easy it hurt!

a new one for the ol' bag o tricks.
