Help - I've tried 3 times to post a part for sale/ I keep getting a message that the post must be reviewed prior to posting. Nothing has happened since I joined up a number of days ago.

I this a system issue, or am I really waiting for a review? How long does it take?

Please let me know. It's a little frustrating........no feedback.

Thx.

I have a car I am parting out and want to post it, but Im to pay or 'contribute' to the maintainence - which I'm happy to do - but I have asked for help doing this cause I dont know or want to know how to use paypal. But same thing, no feedback yet. I'm still waiting too.

Thanks for the info. I'd just like to understand the process.............no feedback doesn't help the forum.

The PayPal thing is pretty easy actually though. But, what good is it if no explainations are forth coming. :(

BTW, do you or anybody know the ID of the/an administrator for help????

Parts for Sale

Thanks for the explaination, but the donation/commission for sellling my one item seems kind of high (maybe 25-33% of what I could possibly ask and no idea of whether anybody would buy it). If I had more stuff, like an entire car to sell or part out, the donation/commission structure would seem more economical and worth it. I'll think about it/

BTW, even though it's "stickyed", it's kind of buried. When I scanned through that post before I posted, I missed the single part thing all together. All I noticed was the full car sale description. And, if a member does post a classified incorrectly, the "error" message should redirect you to that note/or mention the issue and not say someone needs to review it and get back to you, if that isn't going to happen.

Thx.

Back in Michigan ... again.
Not sure what you mean by commission... there's just a flat fee of $5 for a parts ad, $10 for a car, or $15 for a parts car

Honestly, $5 for a basic parts ad is cheap, and the classifieds section is the only source of member revenue available to help keep this forum free. But if you think it's only a $5 or $10 part you have, that's obviously up to you as to whether you'd like to place an ad for it. Beth sometimes makes special arrangements for certain situations, so if you haven't already sent her a message through PM, you can email her here: [email protected]

Thanks :)

The admin mail has been down for a few weeks but the server folks have been working to try and restore it. I'm sure it's slam packed with a ton of emails. Right now *** are the best option, if they don't get it restored here before long I'll be changing the MX records on the forum domain so I can be more in control. Something I've wanted for awhile now anyway so maybe this will be my excuse to go ahead and take the bull by the horns.

Bob and I have discussed his ad via PM now, so that much is taken care of. badcamelot, if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM.

I'd like to post some parts up too, however, I'm in no position to afford to be putting money towards somebody's website... my contribution I'd like to believe would be helping other SHO owners get the parts they need, [SNIP]... I apologize if I came off a bit rude by saying that, but I have bills to pay and a newborn child to take care of, I can't afford to be giving a website money. Not to mention a domain name costs around $9 for an entire year, and if you get it from the right place, web hosting could cost about $5 bucks a month, or you could get a nice hosting package for around $75 for the whoolllle year... i know this because I build websites for a living, so I know the costs of maintaining one.

lol Its gonna cost you more just for a local ad or ebay (with all fees and paypal fees). It doesnt matter where it really goes , its a matter of you selling parts. If you cant invest 15 some dollars to sell some 500+$ of parts , well just let it die in your driveway. Besides your SHO aint the last one on the planet.

i knew i was gonna come across as rude... and i didnt want it to seem that way... that wasnt the issue, if its a listing fee that's one thing... but it should be made known that its a listing fee... it shouldnt be called a donation... because I dont have money to donate... if i need to pay for the posting, im more than happy to pay for a posting.. however, ebay... like you had brought up, charges you AFTER the item sells...

Its called a donation for legal reasons i'm sure, since Beth and the forum are not-for-profit "service" to the public.

As I see it, if the $15 up front flat rate "donation" is too much, then you can pay more on Ebay, about the same for a newspaper ad or online ad that wont be seen by anywhere near the same concentration of target buyers.

As far as your understandong about websites like this one and the upkeep and costs, you need to go back to school before you get schooled on it on here.

lol, actually I own a web design agency.. so I know all about the cost of upkeep, depending on the site, it could vary... besides, theres no need for the bashing, I was simply stating, that paying a fee AFTER an item has been sold is a more reasonable way to sell, if I pay 15 bucks, and nothing sells... then I've wasted money... I didn't mean to be rude in any manner. It's just an opinion of mine that it makes more since to pay a listing fee after it's sold... especially someplace where the sale isn't guaranteed.

p.s.- the stuff is already on ebay, which is another reason why it'd be better to pay afterwards, if i pay ahead of time, then my stuff sells on ebay, rather the here... i've just spent 15 on nothing... but again, im not here to rant and rave... i was stating my opinion... but as i've seen all over the forums... alot of you dont like any opinion but your own

p.s.s.- even not-for-profits have the right to charge for certain things, such as upkeep, so "for legal reasons" it does NOT need to be listed as a donation for her to have the right to charge, her website would be considered "informational" anyhow... not a "not-for-profit"

You clearly know nothing about how forums are hosted. Bandwidth = money, and with 15,000 members, that's a lot of bandwidth.

If you can't make $15 back in parts from a complete parts car-and help a community that supports you-then you're a pretty bad salesman. If you take this same kind of business savvy to your company, well,

Best of luck selling your parts.

Then don't post it here. If you were so sure it was going to sell on eBay then you would not have posted it here to begin with. And I might add that you still pay the listing fee on eBay if even if something doesn't sell unless they've changed something since the last time I sold items on eBay.

p.s.s.- even not-for-profits have the right to charge for certain things, such as upkeep, so "for legal reasons" it does NOT need to be listed as a donation for her to have the right to charge, her website would be considered "informational" anyhow... not a "not-for-profit"

I am not going to get into the little details on why I do things the way I do on my forum, but rest assured that there is a reason. You may own a design company, but I own the server and the website. You obviously have no clue how much it costs for a person to have a dedicated server hosted, about bandwidth costs for a website that gets well over a million hits per month, etc.

So you don't want to pay up front for a ad, that's fine. That's your decision. But don't come onto my website and try to circumvent my rules and the way I run things because you don't agree with them. That's the quickest way I know of to find yourself escorted to the door.
