Hello and thanks for reading.

I'm looking to join the world of SHO ownership and re-live my college years. A close friend of mine had a 94 SHO twelve or so years past. Many road trips were taken, and skirts were chased. Fun was had by all who were riding in his red SHO. Now as I approch mid-life, I'm looking to buy one for myself. I doubt I'll be road tripping or skirt chasing, but I hope to have fun behind the wheel, none the less.

I really would like a MTX, but am thinking seriously of a nice ATX that i've found. I'm wondering if I would be happy with the performance of the ATX since my friends was a manual? As these cars get older, condition is more important than the trans is to me. In WI they all rust to p--s and you'd be hard pressed to find a clean one. Can you guys give me any advise what to look for as far as problem areas with the Gen 2 SHO's? I've got my eye on a nice automatic, but it's a long haul to bring it home.

I wish we still had Performance Plus here in Madison. Doug was the only guy who would touch my friends SHO.

Have an awesome day, I'll keep you posted if I bring one home.

Awesome user name! :thumb: Welcome to the forum.

I don't want to start up the ATX vs MTX debate, but if you're buying it to have fun behind the wheel, you should hold out for a nice MTX in my opinion. They are out there. Rust sucks, so consider looking for a nice southern car, and try to get one with all the maintenance done. If you find one that's been neglected at all, I'd plan on having to spend some money on maintenance items.

There was a thread or two around here about things to look for when buying a SHO. I'll see if I can dig one up later.

Would like the 92-95 style first, 89-91 second. Or a 2010-12, but I'm not Rockafeller.

Where in WI are you from?

And I agree on the MTX, and there are some cleaner ones over in Mud Duck land, check CL and just know what your looking for, I'm sure somebody could give you a quick 10-25 point list to look at on them.

An automatic(with a good functioning transmission) is fun to drive in a straight line, and makes a good commuter if you just want a comfortable fast highway car. Everyone hates on the automatic, but it's great for cruising at 90 mph down the interstate. MTX is fun to beat on. Depends on your priorities.

Welcome to SHOland!

1. Don't count out southern cars from your search, independent haulers are a good bargain.
2. Kirk at nesho.com is a good resource for parts, cars, transport, etc..
3. Lots of great advise and info on the forum. "If you ask it, they will reply".
4. Where are you located?
5. If you are looking to cruise then an ATX is not a bad choice. They can be built just like anything else. Just depends on the depth of your pockets ;)

Thanks for the replies. I'm in the Madison, WI area. I'm still looking for a SHO, but have been sidetracked by working on a 1998 Honda Accord. Not a fan of a Honda, but it was cheap. Once the Accord is gone, I'll focus on a SHO. I'm thinking a manual is my preference. Hoping to have one so I can attend the SHO Convention this year since it's close to my grandparents in MN. Brainerd has a great track and that will be a fun time for all.

Have an awesome day.

I think the thing that made the SHO unique was 4 doors, high performance motor, and a manual transmission. In 1993 Ford attempted to increase sales by bringing out the automatic transmission. If you want a SHO go for the manual. Be patient get the right car.
