Ran across this Ford training video today and wanted to share. It helped folks like me who aren't as savvy in a/c repair understand the importance of an in-line filter as well as how to remove and reinstall a couple of parts, drain and fill compressor liquid, etc. Even better--the car worked on in the video is a Taurus.

I don't think my car currently has an in-line filter, but I see its use, where it goes, how to install, etc. I also looked up some videos on a/c line removal, o-ring replacement, etc.

Wow, this stuff isn't rocket sceience and looks fairly simple (unless you need to replace the evaporator core).

I bought this little guy from HF the other day.

http://www.harborfreight.com/air-vacuum-pump-with-r134a-and-r12-connectors-96677.html

Looks pretty easy to use; I connected an adapter hose to the rear of the pump and then connected that to my main air line at the compressor. On the front, I had to cap off the port facing directly forward, and the port pointing vertically pulled the vacuum---fair enough. I try to attach my yellow a/c hose to it and it won't fit??? The high pressure hose does, but that's not the one that goes there. Do I need another adapter fitting? The instructions with this thing are poor. Maybe I should try to reverse it and cap the top and see if the front port will pull a vacuum? I think it's just 2 adapters, 1 for R12 and 1 for 134a and you cap off the one that doesn't fit and use the other one, right?

Just had time to watch this in full, not a bad idea to perform if you've had a compressor failure.

Also looked at your vacuum pump, and yes, one fitting is for R12 hoses, and the other is for R134 hoses. Have you had time to mess with this at all?

I was going to try to vacuum the system today; waiting on my o-rings to come in. Got all a/c happy and bought an accumulator for only 50 bucks b/c I found it cheap. I'll probably go ahead and replace the liquid line too.
