so does anyone have any experience with the General Exclaim UHP tires?

I was thinking 225-45-17 on a 7.5" wheel

reason being they are slightly smaller then the 235's in all dimensions, my car currently has 235-45-17 Pirelli P6 all seasons, they grip suprisingly well, much better then my old 225-50-16 Nitto NT450's

this tire is in the price range on tire rack of the Kumho Ecsta SPT and Fuzion ZRi two others tires I might be internested in, I like the General for the following reasons:

-highest treadwear rating
-lightest tire, beats some of its competition by 5lbs each!
-seems smaller slightly then the other tires
-seems to have good reviews, although I don't find many

I used to have the fuzion's and liked them, however they did wear out fast... I was thinking of trying out the generals instead based on the above, but I wonder about its performance.....

I saw on some of the reviews people were complaining about traction with the SPT's

anyone have any thoughts on this?

The generals are a little better with traction than the SPTs. It just so happens I'm running a set of UHPs right now, and those replaced SPTs... if I had to pick again I'd pick the Generals. They whup HRis, that's what's on my wife's car, if that means anything.

I have these tires in 225/50/16 for my slicers on my 91. Never pushed them really as my suspension was shot. Now it is not though!!! They are quiet, cheap, and traction is alright. Wet traction is pretty good though. Going from crappy all-season which I could spin second easliy in 2nd. With these tires its pretty hard to break them loose, even in first. I would have to try to make it spin. When I bought them they were super cheap at tire-rack and too get max summer performance tire for the same price as all-season tires. I jumped on them.

Another tire to look at is the pirelli m+s p nero zero. Have them on the 18's. I like them alot. Dry traction is great (14.3's) and ride nice. Plus it just a good looking tire too. Can't really say anything bout wet traction as it never been in/caught in it yet.

because that is already close to the minimum width the manufactuer recromends for a 225 sized tire.... if you haven't known by now, and for the past few years, I preach picking the correct size tire for your wheel, not just throwing as much rubber as you can on there, it can actually hurt your traction for various reasons....

and besides all that, factor in price, weight, heigth, and clearance against my struts....

maybe for a drag launch it could be better, but I don't goto the dragstrip often

My wife runs 225s on her 16x8 Borbets. I think they look good, and there is very little sidewall flex. Even fusion HRis handle well.

Todd, I don't know what your budget is, but for about the same price as the SPT, you can get the Sumitomo HTRZ-III. Probably the first Sumitomo ever that is any good. I haven't pushed mine real hard, but I haven't broke them loose either.

I used to have the SPTs in 225/50/17. Did a couple track days on them and was pretty satisfied. I've still got a pair that you can have for cheap if you want them.

From the reviews I read, the traction up the UHP looks to be alright, but I got the impression that they handle like a wet noodle.

I might be interested in those kelvin, I really only need a pair right now, but I need to check out the sizes of those tires compare to what I got now because clearance is an issue on my wheel setup

I saw your sumitomo's they look alright, but they have a low treadwear rating which kind of turns me off.... we install a lot of sumitomo's here, they seem to be a well built tire and they balance out really good and run straight.....

Go with the General Altimax HP's.

I have those on the red SHO and I love them. They are directional, great in the rain and very sticky. I'm totally impressed with the grip.

My opinion anyways.
