Hello, I am new to the forums and have a question about the SHO I just bought. Just picked up a 91 SHO 5spd with 140K. Drives really good and stuff, but has been sitting for some time. The gas pedal is very firm, there really doesn't seem to be alot of play to it. Can this be adjusted? I can't really rev the car at all and getting it to grab out of first gear can be tricky.

Any info would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks

Jeff

Welcome aboard Jeff.

Have you checked the linkage at the pedal itself, as well as where it hooks up to the throttle body on the engine? Maybe something is restricting the movement of cable or linkage, or it might be dirty and in need of some lubrication.

You can try lubing the cable where it meets the throttle body with some with lithium grease. Do not use WD-40. Work the grease inside the cable. If this doesn't help your problem, you will need a new throttle cable.

When I bought my '94 three years ago, the gas pedal was very stiff, and the previous owner said it had always been like that. The throttle cable was the first on a long list of items I've replaced on my SHO.

thanks for the info

All - Thanks for the info....I will start with the Throttle cable and check it out. It might need some Lubing, it does seem to be better than when I drove it the other day, so the sitting for a while wasn't helping anything.

My car needs a new accelerator cable because it keeps binding. Some of the dealerships are telling me they are no longer manufactured and cannot get the part. I am told it must be 35" long and SLO cables are only 15"-17" long. Where can I get one? I'd like a new one because binding and rusted cables are common on these cars, so I think it would be best.

Thanks.

I prefer the throttle "weight" of the 89 throttle body spring the best. They are smaller than the other years.

Got an 89 TB on all my SHO's :)

hmmm... :bonk: Guess I'll have to break out the twine...

or get one of those cut-to-custom-length cables...

Try contacting Lokar, but be prepared to spend $200 for a cable, which'll probably end up being adjustable.
