Has anyone replaced/made the bent metal spring on the fuel filler door. That arched piece of metal that springs the door open that first inch when you pull the release cable has gotten very rusty and now cracked. The door will not open on its own. The only way I can open it is stick my key in the crack and pull the override in the trunk. Has anyone else had a problem with this or no how to get or make one?

Mine was broken I replaced it. There is only one bolt holding it on the door. Got the part from the stealer it was less than 10 bucks.

And myself. What did the dealer officially call that part? They usually have exotic names for simple parts.

Well if you happen to have any 91 through 95 taurus hanging around the house, the springyoid thingy will work for your car. I was lucky, my grandfather's 92 wagon's spring was in great condition, and he hates having to unluck the fuel door, so i just took his off. I tried making one before i took his but found it hard to find any metal stong enough and springy enough to work. But noticed that the gen 1 cars parts won't work cause their spring is just a little longer and the screw holes are different. But just go to a junkyard.

For less than 10 dollars is it really worth trying to make or going to a junk yard?

When I was at the JY getting other stuff recently, I remembered that I needed one of these, so I looked for one........ I checked 10-15 Taurii, and they were ALL broken!

Im taking it back tomorrow and verify its for the right model year.

This reminds me too, I have to get a new spring. I also have to release it through the trunk and open with my fingernail.

Trunk release too?

Both of my spring things dont work, the trunk and the gas tank, anyone know how to fix the trunk one? Plus the lock that goes in that little hole is flopping around my glove box... Any help with that?
