What are everyone's opinions of the use of **** Gard Automatic Transmission Fluid Protectant?

From what the shop that rebuilt my tranny says, it's the only OEM used aditive and the only one they recomend.

Ben,

I do not have any knowledge of the benefit or( lack of) of the additive you asked about. I do have first hand knowledge that **** Guard does not supply any oem's with this additive they offer. They will purchase the various additives from Lubrizol and other companies who manufacture additves for the lubricants industry world wide. **** Guard will then incorporate the additves they purchased & blend the finish product from there own formula. The additives companies spend millions with R & D with the car makers yearly, developing new products for new equipment. Mike

We use one bottle of **** Guard in every transmission that we rebuild. I have seen no negative results from it. I use it in my own cars too.

I also use it to convert Dextron III into the Mercon V that my 98 requires from the factory. There are several different variations of their product. I will say it is good stuff. I think at worst, it surely does not hurt things. I would advise adding it while changing your transmission fluid.

And it is not a FIXALL. Do not put it in because your transmission is slipping. It is not ment for that.

Good Luck

friction modifiers are good for keeping the fluid a little cooler...

I forget which one I am running, but I am pretty sure I am going to go synthetic next flush...

Ben,

After my recent tranny rebuild, I was talking to my tranny guy about the stuff. He gave me his thoughts about it and loaned me his latest issue of Transmission Digest which talks about the additive. From the information I read, it looks like really hot stuff. Really aids conventional fluid in lubrication and resistance to breakdown. My tranny guy uses it in all of his rebuilds (in combination with a good dino ATF) and has never had any problems from the mix. He gave me a bottle to add after my 500-mile break-in period, but I have elected not to use it right now since I'm already using Mobil 1 synthetic ATF.

From what I can tell, **** Guard is some of the best stuff on the market. I don't have personal experience with it, but I have to agree with Mr. Yeager. It can't hurt to use it any, especially if you're doing a flush and/or using conventional ATF. thumb

its quite probably the best ATF additive on the market.... it isn't really a friction modifier (at least the regular lubeguard), nor is it a leak stopper, or a tranny rebuild in a bottle. Those things are garbage ..... this stuff is designed to prolong the life of your internal parts by keeping the ATF fluid at its peak chemical/physical properties. its preventative maintenance....
