Well, I might also venture a guess at a thrown shim. I know you have a v8 (it can happen to both) but this thread might be worth reading, another guy on here threw a shim in his v6 in December. I heard the car running in October before he knew of the problem and it sounded very similar to yours. http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=104743

I'd like to suggest that you attempt to use proper punctuation in your posts, it helps us understand you better which helps us give you better help :)

edit: Hey thanks for punctuating :thumb:

If it had the noise before it was welded and got worse then it isn't a shim or your cam welder should be fired for not noticing a shim was out of whack someplace.

This might be a dumb question (but you never know), but have you checked your belts for shred? My brothers SHO has his secondary belt (water belt) starting to shred and it makes a noise like that (but not as loud)... so it might be worth checking if you can't find anything else.

What's the mileage on the engine?....sounds like very loose or damaged valves. Any record of a valve adjust? Did your cam welder check valve clearnces or advise whether the cams had shown any signs of loosening? The ticktick sounds a lot like more than just one cylinder...ie valves that have been sucked into the heads or been burned up....blocked or restricted Cats could cause burnt exhaust valves. It could very well just be a displaced shim but the sound seems too rythmic. Hope it isn't burnt valves or slipped cam where the damage was done before the welder did his work. If it were mine I would consider doing a cylinder compression test and then follow up with a cylinder leak down test to identify the scope and severity of the problem. Hope it's something simple and cheap.:nut:
