Hey,

I need to get a fuel pressue gauge to check my pressure... I have found some for mustangs for about $30-40... does the mustang share the same schrader valve as the SHO?

If you're just looking for a standard diagnostic fuel pressure tester, any local parts store will have one for under $40 with the proper adapters.

If you're looking for one to go in permanently (i.e. a 2 1/16" gauge) then it is a bit more complicated.

How hard is it to check the fuel pressure?

AutoSHO,

I figured a parts store could hook me up. I was browsing ebay and was curious about a fixed gauge for a mustang... The best situation for me would be to rent one if possible. I just want to test if my lean condition is caused by insufficient fuel pressure.

Checking the fuel pressure is a simple matter of threading a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail schrader valve, putting the key in the "on" position(KOEO) for a static pressure test, and then starting the engine (KOER) for a running pressure test. Note: schrader valves come in different sizes. Most pressure test kits come with several adapters.

As stated above, it is necessary to have the pressure testing equipment, or access to the equipment. Check with Auto Zone and see if they "loan" the equipment.

Wood e,
How do you know you have a lean condition? O-2 sensor codes? Spark plugs indicate tell-tale signs of lean condition? Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

Thanks for the replies...

rangerj,

I am getting lean O2 sensor codes on both banks. The )2 sensors have less than 3,000 miles on them. I checked the 02 sensor wiring, cleaned my MAF, did a 60k (and once finished checked for leaks), and tried some injector cleaner. None of this seemed to fix my issue. After each event I cleared my codes to see if the problem was remedied. I have not pulled my new plugs to see how they are running, but I suspect my fuel pressure is to blame.
