I have done Struts on my 1986 300ZX last winter
I have Monroe "quick struts" coming for front and rear
I have already put the car on jack stands w/o losening the spindal nut
Do I have to remove the brake rotor? And if so can I break the spindle nut w/o lowering the 1990 SHO?
I have searched this forum for my answer
Thanks
Jay

i'm sure others'll chime in, but since i'm first, i'll give you my advice...when i changed the struts and springs on my 98, i used a pair of 500lb ratchet straps to compress the springs after bustin the pinch bolt loose. then popped the three top nuts off, then wrestled it free.

1. Remove swaybar endlink from strut.

2. Remove tie rod from knuckle (helps with maneuverability of the knuckle).

3. Remove pinch bolt holding strut into knuckle.

4. Tap knuckle down off of strut. If you need more clearance, put a jack under the subframe, loosen subframe bolts, and lower subframe slightly to gain enough clearance to get strut out of knuckle.

5. Remove top three nuts on strut tower and remove strut.

About 20 minutes per side with air tools, including beer time.

once the sway bar link is removed, remove the pinch bolt, spray alot of PBlaster on anything that is gonna move, first, and then start banging the knuckle down the strut. You can remove the tie rod if you want i guess but in my case i just had a friend push down on the brake disk once the strut was free so that it could be wiggled out. Before knocking the knuckle down loosen all three of the top nuts to allow the strut to move around but not fall down.
