Well went and bought some struts for the front; hope an average joe can change these things. Any words of wisdom?

yes...either rent or buy macpherson strut/spring compressors(i own a pair) and ratcheting wrenches made it easier for me...
it took me about two hours to do both sides (take your time)

They're done; I must have bad luck. I had to take a sawzall to get the swaybar end links off, use a big prybar to get the passenger side hub assembly to get it to drop down far enough to get the strut out, then had to take the saw again to cut the top nut off of the old strut so I could put the new one in. Went back together fairly easy though. Wife is happy so all is good with the SHO.
