I did a search and found some good info, as usual, but didnt get all my question answered.

Ok, I came to the conclusion that my front motor mount is broken, not the strut rod thing or whatever.

I'm going to buy a reinforced mount and was wondering if I should get SHO Nut's Reinforced, or Extreme. I figure I should just get the extreme but if there's something bad about it let me know. It seems for the extra money I should get the stronger mount.

Next question: How hard is it to install the front motor mount? I'm going to take my car in for an alignment soon and I thought I'd let them do it. But being a SHO Owner I really want to do it myself, unless it's too difficult.

Also, where is the mount? I was told it was by the lower radiator hose but I cant get a good look at it. Any pictures?

Thanks guys.

I don't have a picture. But if you take in inner fender liner out it is right there behind the radiator hose. It took my Dad and I a few hours to do it. I would say you could do it if you have an extra set of hands. I would recomend two jacks too because we used on to support (not lift) the motor and one under the sub-frame so it didn't drop too much. There is a pretty good write-up on SHOtimes.

As far as the reinforced versus extreme... The extreme have a lot more vibration. Some guys with the extremes should speak up. I went with the reinforced from RCM Automotive and I am happy with it.

For a stock or near stock SHO a stock mount will be more than sufficient. If you've got some mods on your car I highly suggest Josh's reinforced mount, you really won't need much more than that. I've been using his reinforced mount (not extreme) in my car for some time now and love them. You really won't need the extreme mounts unless you've got some extreme mods, you could get them anyway, but personally I think it would be overkill unless you're going to do some serious mods on your car.

You can DIY with no problem. You can even do it without removing the lower radiator hose. It was done on my car so I know for a fact that it can be done. It takes a little more time, but well worth it if you ask me. If I can do it so can you. ;)

I'll look to see if I have a pic. You've got the right area.

Thanks for the fast response. I'll look into doing it myself. Is it easiest to do it by removing the inner fender lining out? I'm about to buy Josh's reinforced Mount, I'm just waiting to see if there's any other suggestions.

Thanks again.

You don't have to remove the fender lining but taking the passenger side tire off is helpful but not absolutely necessary.

I should also add that my info is based on my car which is a Gen 1

Probably not necessary but it makes it easier to get to the bolts. I didn't remove the whole thing, just the front and pulled it back.

I have the SHO NUT Extreme mount, and with aluminum SFBs I don't notice much (if any) additional NHV. Although that stuff doesn't really bother me that much.

Its a pretty easy job through the passenger wheel opening. I removed my lower hose since the system was empty at the time. The subframe does not have to be lowered. I also had no problem doing the job by myself.

Great! This is good news.

I'm going to get the reinforced mounts, since it seems like the little extra money for the extreme isnt worth it in my situation.

Just an update:
I got my motor mount in today. For the most part it was very easy. Took about an hour and a half pretty much by myself my friend helped me alittle. I was surprised how smooth it went out and in. I could see where the mount had started to tear, and you can easily see the difference in mounts. Josh's reinforced mount looks much tougher than stock. But the best news of all is that I dont hear the clunk anymore when I roll back in my driveway and start to move forward, or when I go over the bump into my driveway!! I'm going to give it some more time, but I think it def. helped. I still want to upgrade the rest of my mounts, but I'm pretty happy right now.

Thanks for all the help guys and Beth. :thumb:

Great job.

What's really funny is there is a front motor mount replacement guide going up on SHOPP in a few days... :headbang:

Nice, who wrote it?

If it's anything like your 60K guide then it'll be awesome.

*cough* *cough* That'd be me!

Actually, the prototype of the CV joint guide is going to be up in an hour or so, if you're still up...
