Jeremy,

The best way I know to flush the system is to first take a turkey baster and suck the fluid out of the reservoir, then you can undo the hose from either the reservoir in-line or at the PS cooler unit. I do it from there since it's easier access for me and no belts to get any fluid on if you spill any. Either one, be prepared with a catch pan. Once most of the fluid is out, turn the car on and turn the wheel from lock to lock to force out the rest of the fluid. Refill the system and repeat until the fluid comes out more clear looking.

Paul Nimz has a great way also, but it doesn't have an immediate effect. He suggests that people suck all the fluid out of the reservoir weekly and refill. Eventually the fluid will stay clean. (I think that's how it went, totally recalling the info from memory so someone correct me if I'm wrong.) You can also use Paul's method once the flush has been done.

I don't think that all the fluid is ever fully drained from the system without actually dropping the rack, thus several days later the fluid in the reservoir will be dark colored again, that's where Paul's method comes in handy.

BTW, what kind of issues are you having with your rack? Anything else we can help with?

I used the above approach and now have bright red ps fluid as a result. While I wasn't have any issues with the steering, the original fluid was black and needed to be replaced. Paul's method is very clean and yields good results in keeping the fluid clean. Depending on the problems you are experiencing, your system might need flushing via the ps lines.

I can feel the steering wheel "bumping" left and right and the car following at highway speeds. **** it can be anything from wheel bearings to Vss to R & P to Vaps module. I am just trying to eliminate the cheap stuff first...

The car, in other words will lose its line occationally and begin turning left and right on its own.
