Boy, that took about an hour just to read through the last five pages. Can't wait to see the finished product. My hat's off to you---even the gas door looks good! I think you'll be well-received at car shows, and the detail and abundance of pics on this thread is unmatched. Excellent work!

so any updates?? i want to see more pictures. :****:

Sorry fellas but i been hacking away at the audi fuel door. Trying to get a better fit. I had made mounting braket out of sheet metal but it was to thin for it. So i had to remake that out of a much thicker piece which has taken me a while because its that much thicker. Well the actual car is getting wetsanded to reapply another coat of base then it will be painted.

I decided not to do the moonroof on the car. Thanks for all the input on this one! :thumb:

You certainly know how to build up our anticipation. I'm about to die right now from being left at such a "cliffhanger". :)

Looks like it's coming together nicely. Simply fantastic.

PS: For anyone curious about custom HIDs, I have a little writeup on mine at my Cardomain site:

Nope not done yet ... since i had told them to stop on the work because i was considering installing a sun roof so they pretty much left it alone till i made up my mind. Anyway. I spent 3 hrs today cutting and grinding at the fuel door area and finaly got it done with the stock door handle release being functional. Ill talke pictures tomorrow. It looks really good. but if i take the whole assembly off looks like somebody chewed on the fuel door opening.

They started on it again today, since they had to reschedule the work to include my car. So the engine compartment is being bolted back together, and the car is getting wetsanded to reapply the base again to then paint.

Total time without SHO ... 8 months and counting....

Just wondering about how you're planning to push your wheels out to fill the fender and are gotta assume that you'll be either buying custom wheels if you wanna go 18" or greater. Cause the SHOs bolt pattern is rare and I assume you would want to reduce the offset about 40mm or so.

I have a 94MTX on which I have totally removed the rear fender lip. I then had 2 20mm spacers custom made to push the wheels out as much as possible without rubbing.

In the process I had the remove part of the rear side molding (door section) as this was where the tires were rubbing against after I installed the 20mm spacers.

I run 18x8.5" rims with 235/40-18 tires. Car is lowered ~1" in the rear.

The main problem I had pushing the wheels out was actually with the wheel studs. The stockers were just too short. I ended up punching the stock studs out and expanding the holes in the hub to fit longer studs.

Unfortunately, longer studs were not available with the same 12x1.5 stock thread. So now I'm using 1/2"x20 studs in the rear.

As you can imagine, since the front studs are still 12x1.5, noone else but me will EVER change wheels on this car.

You had that much trouble fitting 18x8.5? What offset were they?

I had 40mm offset 18x8 rims on my last SHO with 235/40/18 tires with no clearence problems dropped 1.50" rear and 2.75" front, here:

To have his rims stick out further to match to the new fender he'll need something wide like 9"+ rims with 35mm or spacers.
